car is a 97 escort 1.6 16 valve zetec petrol fuel injection.
engine starts normaly cold and hot. revs settle at 1200.
having driven off for a short distance - depressing clutch shortly prior to stopping -eng revs move up to 1500 untill wheels stop-this without foot on throttle pedal
In daytime temps of 25/27 deg c above condition is persistant-in lower outside temps revs reduce to 900 ie normal idle.
Engine has been checked at main dealers-cause of problem not found-please advise.

I know on the Ford Ka the idle control valve plays up and causes this problem, not sure if its the same on the Escort. Might be worth checking out.

hiya
im new to this forum but i was having a read about the escort stuff , being a owner meself and the problem with the high RPMs happens to me , but mine is usually after a motorway or high speed run, when the engine is running at normal on temp gauge , but if i goto work early in morning i can have a fast run and its ok in cold weather , its due to go in for a service in a few weeks time so ill get robbie to have a look , but a guy at work has a GTi which had the same problem he said his was the lambada sensor , once robbie's sorted it ill post what mine was
cheers
Graham

this is most likley the idle speed controlle valve, take it off and clean it with carb cleaner no sharp instruments) 9/10 times it will cure the fault. the following might help
