Hello Everyone,

I have owned my Focus st tdci for a year next month,

I have noticed that everytime i go to check the engine oil level it is impossible to get an accurate reading.

I do the following

1. remove dipstick Wipe, Replace,

2. Remove dipstick try and see where the oil line is and fail because the oil goes over and above the max line.

3. i try a 2nd time and see the same result as 2.

Is anyone else having this issue with the 1997cc Duratoq TDCI engine (Code DW10) fitted to most Fords since its introduction in 1999

Never had an issue with the DW10 in Peugeots, owned several of them...Ford probably ruined it.  The 2.0 petrol in the Fiesta is impossible to get a reading from lol, have to dip 2 or 3 times and take an average...

If it's reading over each time, either your dip stick is too long or your oil level is too high.

I do the following

1. remove dipstick Wipe, Replace,

2.Rotate dipstick 90 degrees clockwise using handgrip and remove quickly..

3.Repeat 2-3 times

try that.

and are you checking oil level when the engine is hot or cold ?   it can make a difference......

I've had this problem in the past, not just with Fords. I find that removing the dipstick, wiping and waiting a minute or several before replacing/withdrawing it to gauge the level allows the oil in the tube to settle for a more accurate reading. The more you stick the dipstick in and take it out the more oil accumulates in the tube, banjaxing the reading

FWIW I let the dipstick drip into the bonnet catch before wiping. Waste not...

Is it a sporty short throw dip stick fitted from factory?

Like a short shift gear box but oil stick version 😉

Unlike Vauxhalls where the Dipstick is applied after purchase, accessible from the cabin.
