Question about Windows 7 upgrades, but a relatively simple one for those in the know, so..

why would Tesco Direct be selling the Windows 7 Ultimate Full Version CHEAPER than the Ultimate Upgrade version? And is it as much of a no brainer as i think - i.e. buy the cheaper, full version? http://direct.tesco.com/q/N.1998893$4...ResultSort.y=10

I am making the switch from dreaded Vista but not yet decided whether to go for W7 Pro or Ultimate, but the fact that I don't even know whether to go for the upgrade or full version is confusing me even more

Upgrade is exactly the same as full version, the difference is upgrade will check for a previous version of windows on the PC. The major differences in Ultimate and Home is Ultimate is geared more towards business use with better networking options etc. If you wont use these, get Home Premium. I've been using it since release and its fantastic. Even upgrading you get the option whether to overwrite the previous version leaving all your files and settings in tact or formatting the drive and doing a clean install. I went for clean install and it took about 25 mins all in. That included Windows update grabbing the 4 drivers that werent included in the massive driver CAB on the disc.

If you have a Costco close by I saw Win7 Home Premium for £54 inc VAT

Not sure if there is a Costco near me, but i'll see what i can find regarding them on the net or using their price as a benchmark for other retailers to do a price match

Whatever version i go for i will need to do a clean install as I intend moving from the 32bit Vista Home to the 64bit W7 - I waS going to go for the Ultimate cos it comes with the Bitlocker program and it's only about £12 more on Tesco Direct

RE-EDIT seems like costco is a business-only membership type place. Boo hoo lol

Ordered W7 Ultimate - full version - form Tesco Direct - very good service, ordered at 5pm yesterday, got delivered at 3pm today

So i'm in the process of backing up my data now ready for the clean install - wish me luck lol

TBH, i would recommend a clean install, thats if you havent done it already.

Win 7 Ultimate is the Business, and with Office 2010 Beta, mmmmmmmmm.

i work for a computer company and i get to test these o/s etc before they realease so i have copies of all Win 7

now i know people will slate me for this, but i think MicroSh*te have upped their game recently.

Mind you with the horror that was Vista, they couldnt get any worse.

How did u find the process?

Office 2010 any different from 07? I looks the same to me except its more gray ish so it doesnt fit with win 7 much anymore.

Beta 10 looks very much the same as usual, except a few tweaks here n there, more of a brand change than an upgrade, mind you i havent done much with it other than install and use for basic usage.

here a question for you all, With the Win 7 RC version now on its way to O/S Heaven, how are you folks going about the move to RTM?

just interested to see how people adapt!
