Hi all,

Have today purchased a lovely radiant red gti , its a one owner car the Uk,it was shipped to Cyprus in2004,

Driving the car home,i noticed that if your clutch foot is putting any pressure on the pedal , the engine races , the bite point is also very high

Is there a simple fix.

Sounds like a worn out clutch to me - the fix would be to replace it.

I agree with other reply.

but would add these two points:

if it does not slip when you do not have your foot on the clutch then I would wait until it does slip before replacing (unless you don't want to caught hundreds of miles from home with a slipping clutch which is not so likely in Cyrpus (I assume you are saying the car is still in Cyprus).

Is it a cable clutch? is the adjuster stuck, do these have automatic adjusters as standard?  has someone replaced an automatic adjuster with a manual adjuster which now needs adjusting.   On cable clutches the adjuster needs to be slackened off as the clutch wears.

My answer is generic and not specific to your model which I am not familiar with
