Steering column knock when steering wheel turns left

I have recently noticed a faint knock coming from the steering column of my Mk 5 Mondeo when the steering wheel turns to the left. (not only when turning left but also when a right hand lock self centres) I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the headlight upgrade or not and was wondering if anybody had come across the same knock? It isn't anything to do with the suspension as I can tell that it's coming from the shroud behind the steering wheel. I was thinking that it's possibly the indicator cancelling device, the steering lock (key free) or something to do with the dynamic headlights. Can anyone help or should I take it to the dealer?

knocking on turning tends to be related to suspension or CV boots, not normally assosciated with a headlight...
