fiesta77
I am surprised by the amount of people having with a leaking boot problem. Unfortunately I got this problem as well. Contacted Ford but they said they cannot help as the car is past warranty. I tried to do a water test with a hose pipe myself but the boot was dry. This morning the side wall under the trim in the boot is wet closer to the rear seats. So, I don't think it is coming through the rear lights as the area below the lights is dry. Anyone else experinces water in the boot close to the rear seats? I cannot find where it is coming from, any ideas/advice would be highly appreciated. Tallchap
Try checking the 2 black rubber grommets at the top which hold the cable looms. Water can get into the top interior panel and run down the sides towards the rear seats.
Willy
Mine was fixed but wasn't told how. I did some investigation before hand and noticed that water would pour through the passenger side near the light but not through the light fitting itself. I guessed it was coming from the passenger roof under the black rubber strip.
fiesta77
Thank you Tallchap and Willy. By rubber grommets do you mean the two rubber things going from the car roof to the boot door? Is there a way to take off side wall trims in the boot without damaging them? And without any specialist tools.
Willy
A phillips screwdriver and torx set will do it.
StornowayBlue
Rear Pillar trim panels are easilly removed. I've had mine in and out several times. Its a van I added seats and belts too, then removed again. 1x Philips screw on each side through the lower trim piece then the upper piece just pulls out of its clips. I had the spare wheel well with water in mine in the first year. Reported it to Ford and they brought it in for testing with hose etc. Im sure they replaced the seal around the boot and its not been an issue since. SNC
Sorry know its and old thread and havent had time to read through it all on my phone. I remember Giuliettas had the same problem and the fault was the rubber seal where the rear wiper connects abd meets the window/car. Might be worth checking if uou have a leak into the bootas it was a very common issue.

Exactly the sane symptoms ad my fiesta 09. I've put sealant on the rear headlight seals and water still seems to get in. The carpet behind the driver seat seems to be wet too. I'm literally pulling my hair out trying to find a solution to the problem because I've still got 2 years of finance left on my car. Did anyone ever find a solution that worked? Thanks in advance for your help! Dan

The carpet was soaked in the rear drivers side and when I lifted the carpet, theres about an inch of water in the spare wheel well! Im not holding up much hope for it getting fixed though after reading through some posts. My fiesta went into the garage a few weeks ago to have the rear lights replaced due to a build up of condenstion. Does anybody think this is related? Did you manage to get this sorted mate? Same exact thing is happening to my fiesta now

GeorgeL
my 2014 fiesta does the same thing. any exact solutions? other than putting silicone all over the place?
dovski
Same here..... Ive got carpets up, seats out.. boot was wet, front and rear footwells soaking...hosed it down and can't find a single entry point. wtf?? its rotting from the inside out. I sealed up the rear lights and hinges years ago, same issue.. sealed around the front bonnet hinges, had the wiper motor out and the air filter from the passenger side.. refitted all the plastic scuttle and wipers. hosed down.... nothing.... had the roof joint strip up n the rh side, looks perfect...no leakage on roof interior.. about to take the rear bumper off..at this rate there nothing left of the car interior..for once its not raining and thx to covid19 I've time to work on it...any further ideas or suggestions that have had success? dovski
Ok, looks like this is the issue as per the findings on the focus sites..tape covering body holes that just peels and falls off..fills the wheel well, runs along the inner bodywork either side of wheel well and into rear pax footwell, flowing through the floor cut outs to the front also. Over time, the carpets never dry out and the smell is like cheap lemon cleaner or cats *****.. any way, I won't know until it truly rains again buts its defo a BIG source of water ingress..fingers crossed
Morfaminer
Its been a couple of months since your post dovski, have you been successful in fixing the issue? Got the same problem on my 09 Zetec S.
ElDiablo
Recently bought a 2010 fiesta zetec s 1.6 TDCI. Great car, drives well and alot of fun to drive and a good improvment on the kia picanto I used to drive. (even if mechanically it isnt as sound lol) needs a new timing belt, as its 10 years old and better to be safe but the other issue i have found is water in the sump of the boot. looks like its coming in from the nearside of the car. havent pulled the carpet lining up yet to have a proper look. Figured it was leakking in through the nearside rear light but after reading all previous posts i am slightly more worried now haha. anybody have any ideas what the issue could be? the water marks are only on the near side right at the back of the boot. seems like its running down and under the carpeting and then pooling in the sump. Thanks El.
dovski
The leak is fixed. It was 110% the sealant leaking at the aft end of the nearside roof gutter where it drops down onto the tailgate frame joint. I was very sceptical and picked out a tiny little cracked sealant and it uncovered a HOLE!!. I couldn't believe the amount of water dripping in from such a small problem, running down the gap between the panels and dripping into the boot left side...Pick it all out and use tiger seal to seal into and over the area. This was in addition to sealing all the duck tape patches under the bumper moulding as per the pictures earlier..cars as dry as bone now. has been for months. I've been trying to find it since 2016!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......get to it
Lewie226
My 7.5 has started a slight leak in the boot - going to try the above to tackle the problem
dovski
If you park it nose up on a slight incline with the boot covering removed, you should see which side is causing the problem, if you dry it before hand obvs.. good luck
Lewie226
Thanks i can’t get it to replicate the leak stationary - it doesn't leak’ until I move off
dovski
I couldnt initially either, it got steadily worse until the wheel well ended up full as the wife drove it and didnt say anything.. The water then went forwards into the rear seat well and then forward into drivers and passengers...whole car was stinking..persevere with it
Lewie226
Thanks - we are talking this area here?
dovski
almost,, its where the rubber roof rail trim ends and effectively three panels meet. ie the left/right and centre panels join the tailgate hinge panel youve shown in the picture. I removed the rubber trim in the roof rail groove but you may not need to. I could hardly make out any defects at all, when I started picking it out it bacme hole about 5mm diameter approx.. Lewie226
Here? I may try to pump some clear silicon into that gap
dovski
Thats the exact spot. the water doesnt show up until it reaches the rear tailgate inner panel, right down in the boot left or right corner. no way youd make the correlation between a leak there and where the water eventually turns up. I'd looked at this are before and thought I'd covered it up. I lost my only key and had a locksmith come to the house and whilst chewing the fat cutting the key and programming, the leak was mentioned and he told me for definate, his mates focus did exactly the same thing. He convinced me to dig it out and reseal it. before I resealed it, I had him pour water over the cleaned out hole and I watched the water ingress with all the boot trim removed including the bumper! Underneath the bumper, there are vents and holes into the bodywork. The holes, ford seal with duck tape!! I replaced the tape and sealed the edges with tigerseal for good measure to stop it peeling again. That alone didnt fix the roof rail leak, but dont ignore that area as water can easily get in there coming down around the tail lights and rear quarter panel. The bumper is reltively easy to get off, a couple of quick pops and 4 8mm bolts iirc in the arches and underneath, a few screws from the tailgate and the parking sensor loom if youve got one.. good luck, interested if you find cracks or holes in the sealant at the roof rail joint..
