Fuel gauge problem.

Recommended Posts

Quick question, does anyone think there is a problem with my fuel gauge or sender. I only put 45 ltrs in and the gauge went from empty (nearly) to full.

Thanks in advance...

Thanks guys, the manual and i was told there is a 55 ltr tank on the focus's.

Problem i have is on a 90 mile trip, (according to the gauge) i'm using 3 galls of fuel. Which i find a bit extreme as i hardly go over 60 mph... I know the gauges are nothing to rely on, but the clock show i'm getting 46 mpg.

When i topped up it was to the first click on the nozzle

Thanks again for any help.

you filled up with 45 ltres of fuel, before that you had approx 36miles to empty, nearly another 4-5 litres approx. so thats approx 50 litres, then when the guage and miles left to empty shows zereo , there is another 5 litres in the tank.

basically its to make you refil before running dry .ive gone another 25 miles after it says empty before putting fuel in.

There is also another reason why the fuel gauge/trip computer show empty while there is still about 5 liter of fuel in the tank. The fuel pump which is mounted in the fuel tank is cooled by the fuel inside the tank. When there is less than 5 liter of fuel inside the tank the fuel pump will not be cooled sufficiently. This can eventually cause damage to the fuel pump.
