hello names John and I'm a new member.

I have a Ford focus 2012 1.6 diesel. I'm starting to get probles with it.

the engine malfunction comes on the little screen on the dash then goes off straight away and puts the car into limp mode. Once i turn the car off and start it up again it runs fine for about 30mins. Sometimes it won't cut out for days but on other days it can cut out up to 5 times. It's been hooked up to a diagnostic machine but shows no error codes.

does anyone have any suggestions what it could be before I take it to the garage & they try to charge a small fortune?

thanks John

What diagnostic machine has it been hooked up to? Forscan will show you a better overview.

If the EML has been triggered there will be a logged fault.

You need something that can read the Ford codes, like Forscan as has been mentioned.

if it was a cluster fault there will be no logs or error codes other than canbus communication errors

Should still have something logged, OP says it showed no error codes.

mine had no codes but I bought a good quality reader which showed more info and pending codes and it showed up can bus errors for it which the old reader didn't so sometimes they are there its just the readers not good enough

It's a DV6...

It's a 2012 which means it'll probably be the 8 valve version and not the notorious 16 valve version.
