Haslet - What's in it nowadays, it's got a very high carb value?

I do like my offal and offal based products:smile:

I was rather surprised as i was entering the nutritional values into my diet spreadsheet, to find the Tesco Deli counter Haslet I was about to eat for lunch has a very carb value (11.7%)  I was under the impression it's made of liver and various pork offals, combined with gelatin and seasoned with both pepper and sage.

Whilst the pepper and sage would contribute a little carb, i would be nowhere near  11.7%!!

Anyone know what they now adulterate it with, more for curiosity sake. As at 11.7% it's far too high to entertain eating at the moment, which is shame, as I like Haslet

Taken from Wiki. Looks like it depends where it is made?

In Lincolnshire, haslet (pronounced 'hacelet' locally) is typically made from stale white bread, ground pork, sagesalt and black pepper

Welsh haslet is traditionally made from finely minced potatoes, pigs' liver and onions.

Cheers Wes:smile:

That would explain it, bread or potatoes:sad:

Unfortunately, Tesco deli doesn't have anything at the counter, where you can check either the ingredients or the nutrition before you buy it.  It's only when you get home and use the website.  I suppose I could've checked it from my phone whilst I was there, but didn't think of that:mellow:

According to the Tesco website:

Ingredients:

Pork (74%), Pork Fat, Wheat Flour (Wheat Flour, Calcium Carbonate, Iron, Niacin, Thiamin), Rehydrated Onion, Salt, Stabilisers (Sodium Triphosphate, Sodium Polyphosphate), Dried Onion, Rubbed Sage, Dried Parsley, Yeast, Parsley, Sage, White Pepper, Flavouring, Antioxidant (Sodium Ascorbate), Ginger, Parsley Extract, Pepper Extract, Pepper, Mustard Flour, Onion, Sugar, Milk Sugar, Cardamom, Pimento, Lemon Peel Powder, Chilli, Mace, Preservative (Sodium Nitrite), Coriander, Nutmeg.

So the carbs will be the Flour, Onion, spices, and Milk sugar (lactose).
