hi,

as i've just got an 8 month old focus i'd like to protect a couple of areas with clear film, does any one know where i can get sheets of clear film from for a reasonable price,

the main area i want to do is just in front of rear arches and a strip across the bonnet, may be wing mirrors..and if i get good at it the bumper next.

i know its out there, the the prices i've seen for un-cut no template sheets are well over the top.

any recomendations

thanks

the only thing ide watch is that it will be obvious its on and secondly as anyone whos had an older passat will tell you they can cause rust where the salt gets caught on the edges slowly it peels the plastic away and gets trapped in the rear of it its great stuff for bikes but for cars i think its naff a good wax and regular cleaning is the best thing to do and get waxoyl with underseal combined and paint the inside of the arches with it

thanks for advise, my thinking for the film is more for stone chip prevention.

as i was looking around for a car i notcied on the older ford focus's that the bonnet and front of rear arch suffer badly with stone chips.

i had an S-MAX and this came from factory with protective clear film on front of rear arches.

i totally agree with you in regards to regular cleaning, waxoyl and under seal. this is on my list of stuff to do, as i plan to keep the car for a good few year.

demon tweeks car section and bike section seem to be a good price.

i've searched the net and finding 3M clear protector to be very expensive...almost more exspensive than getting a respray done on 2/3 pannels

one place quoting £400 for my car front end only..... i'd put a price of £120 per pannel for respray work.

i'm gunna go for cheaper stuff, just in case i find un easy on the eye or a crap catcher.

STILL ANY ADVISE WELCOME AND NEEDED.

a possbility for thr rear is some mudflaps as for the bonnet they can suffer from stone chips so the film would be a good idea just on the actual lip of the bonnet

mud flaps??? do you mean put front ones on to protect rear?

i was thinking off top of my head 150mm (6") deep between headlights clear strip on bonnet

I would say get diamond brite at your Ford dealer. It should be just 199 or ask your sales man to do it for free. It protects your paint work from rust and other elements. Also, it will never need to be polished. After every car wash, your car retains its new car shine. They also stain-proof the fabric of your seats. I personally find it impressive as sometimes I don't wash the car for up to a month and it still looks like glass from afar.

I had an Audi Coupe which had factory-fitted clear tape just before the rear wheel arch. I was told that this was called "helicopter tape". Perhaps the name will guide you to a resource.
