Dagger
Hi I've just bought a Focus 1.6 LX 2001 Really good condition, and has been serviced well. Only issue I have is that the radio doesn't receive and radio stations, just white noise Can anyone help me to resolve this please, as I don't want to be listening to the wife ;-) Thanks
JW1982
This is a known problem of the original Ford radio's of the Focus Mk1/MK1.5. The problem can be solved by replacing the defective components on the circuit board. However because of the costs involved it would not make any sense to repair a radio this old. Installing a different radio will be the cheapest solution.
isetta
yes, mine did that on my mk1 focus. worked one day and the next it had done this. i thought the radio aerial was the cause but after much messing about checking the plug and the cable connection where the aerial goes on the roof I found out it was the radio unit itself. bought a 2nd hand one on eBay, the only downside being the replacement was black and not silver but it didn't look that bad. if you don't mind no cd player and are happy with radio/casette I would imagine it would be pretty cheap. Dagger
How easy would it be to install an aftermarket Radio unit Thanks
MickyG1982
Takes about 5 minutes, literally. A single DIN (standard stereo) will require a fascia adaptor & you will probably lose the steering wheel controls unless you get an adaptor for that too. but the whole process is pretty much plug & play after that. Oh, & keys, which cost a couple of quid.

isetta
i thought you also needed a wiring loom adaptor as I thought Ford had their own style of cable plugs and also maybe an aerial cable adaptor. They are cheap on eBay.examples: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PC5-27-Ford-Probe-ISO-to-DIN-Replacement-Aerial-Adaptor-Antenna-Stereo-Car-Radio-/401060015837?hash=item5d610a2edd:g:HYAAAOSwgApW--vC http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Focus-1998-2004-ISO-Radio-wiring-harness-adapter-lead-connector-/181431455204?hash=item2a3e284de4:g:PQEAAOxyNmZTke95

isetta
actually the whole kit in one here including the plastic surround for single DIN and removal tools http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FP-07-08-Panel-Surround-Adaptor-Fascia-Stereo-Fitting-Kit-For-Ford-Focus-98-04-/371454389992?fits=Model%3AFocus&hash=item567c682ee8:g:0bwAAOSw4HVWD9aZ however, I did get one of these cheap fascia adaptors for my late series Escort years ago, which is same size as mk1 focus and whilst it did fit and do the job, it was a bit flimsy and cheap and nasty quality, but if buying on line you just can't tell the quality until you have it
