Hi guys and gals ,

I picked up my very 1st Focus on the 4th a 2002 1.6 Ghia  and am very impressed with it as i've not had a Ford for quite some time and although theirs a bit of cosmetics to be done on the whole hes in pretty good shape and only has just over 66k on the clock so this is how he looks ,

A quick run down of the spec ,

Leather seats .

Heated front seats with electric drivers seat adjustment .

Heated windscreen .

Electric heated mirrors .

Heated washer jets .

All round power windows with globe .

Traction control .

I recently acquired a front grill off JC600 which i swapped over for the original as the grill trim was peeling off the original so i fix that a bit later on .

So i'm real happy with my motor and can't keep away from driving it :) .

All comments are welcome .

Cheers Ian ..

Ahh the mk1 Ford Focus.  The later Focus generations just don't handle or drive as good. They have become to big and heavy IMO.  I miss mine from time to time.   Nice car you have there.

Thanks mate and yes he is taking in a little water from behind the osr cluster  but it's no biggy atm as it's just a bad seal so i'm debating about whether to get a new rear light or

just try and sort out a replacement seal but tbh i've been trying to decide on getting some US style lights but i think i better sort the leak for the time being .

I've never driven the newer style model Focus's so i've no idea how they feel behind the wheel tbh but i've always loved the style of the old mk1's ever since i saw my 1st outside the place i was working at  back in 98 but yes i have to agree that the newer models have gotten quite big and i also prefer the original for it's shape and size but unfortunately they won't last forever so i'll just enjoy mine while i can ..

I'm not surprised you miss yours on and off as they do tend to get under your skin and thanks for the praise mate ;) .

Yes they can be pretty reliable little motors as my son is on his 2nd after his 1st got wrote off when a car at the side of him on the motorway had a rear blowout and careared into him taking them both over and  off the hard shoulder into a fence ...

Very nice!  The MK1s are the best in my opinion, hence why I bought two!

I also like them a lot for some reason.

I'm almost tempted to buy one, but that would mean paying nearly 500 quid a year in road-tax, and another 1000 for insurance.

Plus, I'd be worried that I might end up liking it too much, and hardly driving my Mk2.5

Well, there is a solution to that...  Sell the MK2.5 and buy a MK1!!

Nah, seriously though I do hear you regarding the extra costs.  I have three cars and it really does drain your finances.  For me it is worth it, but if you have other commitments then you have to be sensible and one car really is all you need.

I bet if I bought an Mk1 or Mk1.5, I'd soon start itching for a Mk3 lol. I think we've established that I'm not heading down that "dangerous" route.

Still, must be nice being able to pick and choose what car to drive depending on your mood on the day!

Thanks mate that means alot ;) and given the chance i wouldn't have two as i'd just go down the estate route which would cover all my needs just as long as it's got plenty of toys :) .

Well in my opinion they are the nicer shape of the Foci as the design isn't over done like some cars out there and their a nice size too and tbh i wasn't keen on the mk2 version as it just seemed to lack character but the the mk2.5 was a nice improvement over the mk2 imo but at the end of the day it's all down to personal taste as i've always liked the mk1 .

Yes it wouldn't be a good idea having to fork out all that extra hard earned when you don't actually get to see anything for it and no you can never like a mk1 to much honest :whistling1: ..

I originally wanted an estate also, but couldn't find one locally for love nor money, and the Ghia came up which was too tempting to resist, especially at the price.  But of course, now that I've bought the hatchback, there is a 2004 Ghia estate for sale!  Go figure!!

Yep! i love the estates but they were either really high milage or too far away but i'd always wanted a ghia model Ford from when i 1st saw a mk2 Granada back in the 80's so when i saw this i was hooked ;) but at least theirs a chance in the future to get the estate version and i've stopped looking at Focus's for sale for that same reason as i don't like it when i see what i could of had as i've been down that route too many times mate  ..

Hi all, just thought l would say how the mk1 is defiantly the best and after 16/17 yrs ours still drives better than my mk6 essy which gave the focus the engine. We've had ours for 3yrs n its the 1st car we've had that's lasted over a yr lol

Thanks for the like Marc and i'm not going to argue about the mk1 being the best and around 17 years for one is really good going and yes the zetec in the mk6 was real nice but tbf it actually feels stronger in the Focus mate ,

I'd love to see better pics when you can  mate of your Escort ( The Daddy ) and your Focus and i had a mk6 Finesse in pepper red for a short while but i hadn't noticed the dreaded tin worm had done it's worst hiding under the sill trims until it's last MOT  :( ..

I agree. The Mk2.5 is definitely much better than the Mk2 IMO. I mean 95% of the parts/internals are the same, but in terms of looks, it definitely looks more modern and sporty. The Mk2 looked very bland with the squarish front and drab interior.

Yes mate the mk2 does look sqaurish and bland and the interior was certainly nothing to shout about and i guess why the mk2.5 was made as it was because the mk2 just wasn't getting many good reviews   ..

Yeah l defiantly would agree about the engine being better in the focus as it feels a lot more sturdy but due to my essy only being a 1.6 and my partners focus a 1.8 l can only state how wobbly it feels in the essy when you pull off but yet the focus it can pull off and go where you tell it to and for an estate it does it without hesitation, the focus was defiantly well looked after buy the previous owners ( minus the last ) as l didn't know properly about undersealing n stuff like that till the guy opposite me ( mk5 cabby 3i ) started helping and showing me a lot of what he knew ( he's a ford nut all sorts of ford parts hidden around the house Sierra/Capri/Fiesta possibly parts to all fords in the loft/under bed/cupboards the lot lol, he said to me that its been kept in a garage while used for most of its life as its never been undersealed from new and at that point he had a mk1.5 Ghia 02 plate and the under side was still cleaner/rust free more than his was lol and its had a few previous owners before us. as to the essy that was bought as a spares or repair again my mate/neighbor now at this point had a Burgundy red type mk6 was meant to get parts of the blue 1 but as it turned out the blue ( now mine ) was in better condition so all the red was stripped to a Shell and put to sleep :-( as my mate finished his first ever modified project ( courtesy of my input on how l thought he should go with it instead of his normal strip all modifications and restore to original ) at this point l had just scrapped my 3rd corsa b in less than a yr ( like the transit there nicely shaped but god the body rots, l would like to say the reason l got hooked on the b was because of its handling and its easy modification ) it cost him £400 in total to get it where it is at the moment ( minus the Mondeo mk1 wheels ) so my partner bought it off him at the same price as a present for me lol so from here on in l have the pleasure of either making it more or leave it as is.. But yes E tea 66 l will post more of them for you no problem mate. Please take no offense even thoe the pictures are of a corsa b the modified parts belong to ford which was frowned upon buy most in the b groups lol because they couldn't accept the ford bits allowed a 1.2 8v to beat 2.0's from 0-35 mph the air filter was made to fit the ford decoe train carb but l reshaped it to fit a single point injector my first ever mod n I'm still proud of it. The exhaust came off a scrap heap from an xr2i which my mate had restored. PS l would have scrubbed the offending name and badge out but l do believe that in the old days both these rivals where just as good as each other and l don't have an app to do it lol

Yea marc the Escort cetainly isn't as stable setting off as the Focus is but at the end of the day the suspension on the Focus was much improved over the Escort ...

My Escort was  1.6 and so is my Focus and i and i can honestly say the Escort felt almost as quick as the Focus setting off but no where near as composed .

You were darn lucky getting to know the guy across the road and i certainly don't know any one with parts stashed around the house like he has and i can only imagine it's like a treasure trove going from room to room and the only fords i've seen without underseal have been at shows so yes yours has certainly been well kept and unless you can protect yours from the elements when not driving then i'd get it undersealed mate .

Theirs nowt wrong with fitting parts off another make of car if their upto the requirements needed and as you say improve performance which is quite impressive tbh and no i'm not offended by corsa pics as my 1st car i drove after passing my test was an old 1.2 L  Nova saloon and that was a cracking little car even though it wasn't the fastest little car but the engine was well strong and never let me down once in my 2 years of owning it and i only stopped driving it because some one drove into the back of it while i was waiting at a set of lights ...

New repeaters look very smart. Muich better than the tangos. I miss my old MK1 loads. Still tempted to go for a ST170 or a MK1 RS when I get rid of the Fabia, or even another Mondy ST of the same era. That generation of Ford's is still my favourite.

Thanks Ben and yes the tango one's just looked wrong imo , my youngest lad has got a mk1 Focus ST and it's a great little car and i love the old Mondi as i use to have a mk1 Lx estate which felt real comfy and ws a great little cruiser :) .

Yes i prefer the older shape fords as they just seem to have bags of character as for you getting another Ford well i can only say which ever you choose just try and get one with full service history and not too many miles on the clock although in saying that the sportier model Fords atm dont seem to bad on mileage ..
