Hey Everyone

I picked up a mondeo st yesterday, only came with 1 key. If i press the buttons of the fob it does nothing to the car. i changed the battery in it,still nothing, I read if i put the key in the ignition and turn from off to ignition 4 times with in 3 seconds, the immobiliser light would stay on? i don't get this but i do get a beeping noise. I read if i press a button then, i could program the fob. The buttons feel fine and the car starts with the key. I can lock the car (central locking works) but when i opened the car the alarm went off. any ideas?

That is a bit muddled up. The immobililser has very little to do with the fob & central locking. A separate part of the key (the PATS chip) is sensed by the immobiliser. If the key starts the car, the immobiliser is ok.

It is normal, on most cars, for the alarm to sound when opened manually with the key. Sometimes you get a couple of seconds grace to get the key in the ignition, to prevent it.

If the fob works, then the procedure below, from the Mondeo owners manual should reprogramme the car for the fob:

To programme a new remote control:

Turn the ignition key to position II four times within six seconds.
Switch off the ignition. A tone sounds to indicate that it is now possible to programme a new remote control.
Press any button on a new remote control. A tone will sound as confirmation. Repeat this last step for all of your remote controls, including the original.
Switch the ignition back on or wait for ten seconds without programming another remote control to end remote control programming. Only the remote controls which you have just programmed are now able to lock and unlock your vehicle.

If this does not work, it is possible that the fob is duff. You may be able to get a new fob that fits the same key from eBay, or get a new key cut and transfer the PATS chip to the new key. The PATS chip is a small glass or plastic capsule buried in the key somewhere. It has no battery or external electrical connections.

If you need or want to add a new key to the immobiliser (PATS), it is more complex.

The owners manual for this Mondeo does give an in-car procedure to re-programme the immobiliser, but I think it needs two keys to be able to do it. With only one key, it needs a computer connection to add a 2nd, I believe. Ford dealer, specialist locksmith, or DIY using FORscan are 3 options.
