mfin
Hi... On my new to me Mk6 1.4 Fiesta Zetec Climate the exhaust knocks on starting. I've just had a look underneath and in the middle section, about in the middle of the car (front to back), the exhaust seems to be just about sitting on top of the removable black cross member (which I assume is there to save the exhaust from dropping down), and by quickly nudging it by hand it is clear that's where the knock is. About in that point I can see a bracket on the passenger side coming down from the car, ending in an open bar where I assume a rubber should attach. It sort of looks like maybe another bracket should be coming down from the other side too, I can see a hole where I think it would be, but nothing there. The exhaust pipe itself at that point doesn't seem to have anything there, just bare pipe. Can anyone describe what might be missing? Are these things that anyone like kwik-fit etc would have on the shelf as standard items, or would they be Ford Specific? Any pointers would be good, I hope my post makes sense! Thanks! isetta
I don't know if anything should be there or missing. But a garage should be able to easily fix a bracket onto the pipe with an exhaust type clamp if need be. maybe something of this kind of style http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Austin-Metro-Exhaust-Silencer-Mount-Clamp-bracket-OE-GEX7537-15344-/231555638092?hash=item35e9caa34c:g:XZ0AAOSwEeFU21qk If you drove into kwikfit you should be able to get them to get the car up on the lifting table and take a look to quote you and show you what they would do. You could then accept their quote or steal their solution and do it yourself. Like, if they say 'we could fit a bracket here' you might say 'can you show me what you mean' . Maybe a bit cheeky, best to go at a time when they won't be busy and they are sitting around bored
