1.6TDCI Mk3 - 1st gear slow?

Hi Guys,

Today, I've returned to Ford after a long hiatus and purchased a Mk3 1.6TDCI titanium (MY2013). It appears to have been well looked after with a full service history and has 64,000 miles so reasonably well used over the last 4 years.

I'm noticing that car seems quite underpowered when pulling away from a junction in first gear? Its is my first diesel car so i'm hoping that i just need to get used to driving it different to my last car (Civic MK8)? Can anyone offer any reassurance that this is as expected / designed -  I'm assuming that it is the way the gears ratios are set to try and maximise efficiency?

Other than that the car is fantastic!

1st gear has limited power to protect the gearbox I recently had my car remapped which has lifted this restriction.

just to chip in , I also found 1st gear to be lacking in power & have been told its by design

Wow, thats a really impressive increase from 115ps. May be something I'll look into

it's a shame ford have to program the ecu to limit the power to protect the gearbox. making a gearbox that is strong enough to take it would have been the best solution

First gear is designed for pulling off, and shoving a poo ton of power though is no matter how strong your gearbox is will destroy it. It's not just Ford that do this by design, my mum's VW/Skoda has exactly the same.
