FMC
I;ve said on a few other threads on here (and no doubt will continue to do so, as this topic seems to come up quite often!), the 1.6T EcoBoost is almost certainly destined for the Fiesta - it was even listed as a "desirable upgrade" on the Ford US Fiesta website before the car was officially launched. My brother works in the Bridgend Ford Engine Plant and they've been told that the EcoBoost is going in the Fiesta and possibly Ka also!! 1.6T and 2.0T EcoBoost gets launched into Kuga and Mondeo from January 2010, rest of the car range is yet to be confirmed. It's just a matter of what the'll badge it as in the Fiesta? ST or RS or something new? Ford has the Fiesta S2000 rally car set for its world debut next month on the Monte Carlo Rally, with the Fiesta WRC car due in 2011, so a hot version of the road car will undoubtedly form part of Ford's marketing plans! I cannot wait for it! :P
thesilverfox
Ford sold more ST Fiestas than Renault/Peugeot/Vauxhall did of their respective hot-hatches in that class, yet were the most 'under-powered' of all of them. Ford don't need to aspire to having the most power - they can sell without being the most powerful quite easily :) And it makes the car more accessible to their target audience - the under 30's who can't normally get insurance for reasonable costs on the loutish VXR Corsa etc.
InstructorPiggy
why Ecoboost???? I can imagine nothing ECO about them!
Fraser.
The pic above is just an old auto express Photoshop I Think. To be honest I think they'd be stupid to charge £20k for one, if they do actually bother making it. They'd have to be willing to give big discounts. You can get a new Clio 200 for about £14k if you look hard enough. And you can get a vw scirocco/golf gti for about £20k, again even less if you know where to look. MarkyR
Yes, a 0 series!!! Well that's the rumours anyway plus the new Alfa is out soon the 148 or whatever they call it. Seems the luxuary brands are pushing further down the price structures? But I also think the A1 is butt ugly? And do the WRC rules still state you have to sell so many road legal versions of a rally car in order to enter the championship with it hence all the crazy hot hatches, evo's and scooby's??? FMC
EcoBoost is Ford's new direct injection petrol engine range which delivers the performance of a petrol with the economy of a diesel Google is your friend ;)

Focus_ST-3
Ford need to make an ST version, imagine a Performance Blue mk7! Does anybody else think that they should drop the Zetec S and replace it with an ST model starting from say £16k and an ST2 model with more kit at £18k? Use the 1.6 ecoboost engine and your sorted. A new model called Titanium S could be introduced which would be a standard titanium with the dress up kit/17" alloys. Just a thought, but it would make sense to me. However, in this months Autocar Xmas Special it says: "If ever there was a chassis and car crying out for more shove, it's the Ford Fiesta Zetec S. Trouble is, an ST variant isn't even on the drawing board. And don't bother asking about an RS." Seems quite conclusive to me and Autocar usually get their facts right. Lets hope they are wrong on this occassion though!
FMC
yea...I will eat my hat the when I see 60mpg on the dash on a ST 1.6turbo fiesta!!! Well i've seen 40mpg on my 2.5T Focus, and that;s renowned for being a fecking petrol guzzler ;) Figures touted by Ford are in the high 40s to low 50s for the 1.6 - admittedly with a 'spirited' driving style it's not going to return huge fuel economy, but this is absolutely new, revolutionary engine design we're taking about. So i reckon it's definitely possible! Salt and vinegar with that hat, sir? :P Ford need to make an ST version, imagine a Performance Blue mk7! Lets hope they are wrong on this occassion though! I'd love a Perf Blue Fiesta! As for dropping the Zetec S/Sport, i would not advocate such a move, because every car range needs a relatively low powered yet sporty-looking car to appeal to new drivers and penny pinchers (i'm in the latter category!! ) - A high powered version is definitely needed though. And it seems that the proof i've been looking for that Ford are putting the EcoBoost in the Fiesta has been out for a few weeks. See Here: Fiesta Will Get EcoBoost B)
Luigi 200
When picking up my 59 fiesta i drove the dealer back to mine to pick up my 58 zetec s and i asked the question..... he said.... they won't do an ST, because of the mountune and the standard petrol it wouldnt be worth doing an ST because of slim power differences... BUT... He gave a little hint at a RS version with A LOT more power, he said the focus ST and RS are flying out and hold their value so would the fiesta RS. Cheeky!! I signed up for a brand new ST-3 but cancelled when I saw them a year old for under £14k at the same dealers (£22k new).
Focus_ST-3
Mountune would be a bit !Removed! off if Ford brought out an ST so for that reason I cant see it happening. Also if you look on the Mountune website, the Fiesta 1.6 Ti VCT is the only non ST Ford which they tune so this may also suggest that no ST is on the horizon. If there was then surely Mountune would have waited to bring out a Mk7 ST Mountune like the last Fiesta ST/Focus ST. I asked the same question a few weeks ago when I was in the Ford dealer. The salesman also said that their would be no ST but told me that an RS was more than likely. I wasnt sure if he knew for definite or if he was just making it up but if your dealer told you the same thing, maybe they know something that we dont?! Luigi 200
I'm just going by what the dealer said, you know what dealers are like! they probably do depreciate like that but he wasn't going to say it :P maybe an RS is on the way i think the ST is a 99% no. FMC
In my vast experience, Ford dealer salesmen are the least informed and most likely to make something up when it comes to future models! I like the sound of an RS - it would probably make more sense in marketing terms to badge the EcoBoost as RS, with possibly wider arches and wider track than the current one, to coincide with the Fiesta RS World Rally Car which will be Ford's main WRC challenger in 2011, also using a 1.6 turbocharged engine (and 4WD, pity the roadcar won't get this too :() As for Mountune, they are just an aftermarket tuner, albeit with extensive links to Ford (the Escort Cosworth WRC rally car engine; the only authorised UK service agent for the Ford GT). I don;t follow the logic that Ford wouldn't release a higher badged model so that it wouldn't "!Removed! Mountune off". Chances are that Mountune will also do an aftermarket tuner kit for the next hot Fiesta, same as they've done on Focus ST, Fiesta ST, Focus RS (despite initial warranty issues) and the Fiesta Zetec-S. :) Also, residuals on the Focus ST aren't too bad - i paid £16,245 (with Privilege discount, list was £20,095) for my ST-2, new, in March 2008, it's done 25,000 miles and i'm getting £14K part ex for it :P

This would make the Mountune completely obsolete. Again just a suggestion, but maybe Ford are phasing out the ST models (ignoring facelifted models, no new ST has been released since the Focus ST in 2005). Both the new Fiesta and the new Mondeo have, as yet, not been available as an ST even though the previous models of each were. Maybe Ford are focusing on developing RS models instead and letting Mountune offer a tuning package for less powerful models.

Fair enough, but the 40+ mpg was done on a complete journey from home in South Wales to Silverstone in Northamptonshire - hardly a freewheeling experiment just to produce a high number for the sake of it ;) And it [ecoboost engine] is revolutionary, for Ford anyway :P
