Site must be down again anybody no why?

Some familiar name appearing here!

I have it on good authority that 'Jamie is tinkering with the server'

Don't have any timescales however...

A problem with the storage area network I believe.

That's good news Nice to see we all went looking on other sites

Just to let all SMAXOC members know that there is a problem at the data centre where the servers are based. HP are on site and are trying to restore the SAN which is the source of the problem. Fingers crossed for better news today.conham50

I know Paul keeps a backup of the site, but its not good news for the new server if all the site data is lost after just a few days.

Fingers crossed for a safe recovery.

Anyone for a poll?

No new news today yet.

This is obviously turning out to be a lot more serious than first thought.

Is this the final nail in the coffin for SMOC?

Were there other 'nails' then?

Were there other 'nails' then?

As you may recall, the server crashed and burned in 2008.

It was rebuilt from scratch and has been running sort of ok, until a few weeks ago the owner changed servers and updated the forum software.

This has left the site in a 'broken' and 'unfinished' state with many featuers no longer working correctly.

Now we hear that this recent downtime is caused by the storage area network (SAN), it could mean that if not sucessfully recovered, it's goodbye SMOC (again).

I am sure it won't come to that as admins have their own personal backup of the site.

edit: SMOC is now back up and running!

been there and done that years ago, lost data in the past.

We have more than one back up contingency. We run 4 types of back ups.

Good to hear. Better to be safe.

When it comes to servers, cheaper is not always better!

I was thinking of paying my tenner to join too. Phew

It's been a while since my last post so I thought I would give you guys a bit of an update with regards to the Smax owners club.

As most of you know, it has had a few problems since it moved servers and upgraded the forum software in January 2010.

This has been a frustrating time for it's powerless members and staff who have had to limp the site through some very difficult times.

I am now pleased to inform you that some of the staff members have acquired full control of the site and moved it (again) to a professionally run server and that company have also worked hard on the site to upgrade the software and iron out the bugs.

It's still work in progress, but if anyone would like to take a look you can now find the club at it's new domain : www.smaxownersclub.com

Thanks.
