Sounds like an interesting plan...I know of a couple of Fiat owners who turboed their cars. 聽Probably doable...just no idea how lol

Thanks for the reply

And I keep looking threw the internet and the efi seems to be the old version of the Zetec聽engine and there are plenty of them with a turbo on,

main issues I was wondering about is will the block and head withstand extra pressure,

i understand all internals with have to be changed and upgrades will be needed but I would rather do it right that wrong

cheers chris

Turbocharging a naturally aspirated engine can be done but requires a lot of modifications. Depending on your personal preferences all modifications needed to install a turbocharger can cost a small fortune.

You should think of a full engine rebuild including the following modifications:

* uprated connection rods.

* forged pistons.

* Cilinder head rebuild including larger valves, stronger valve springs and omtimizing the cilinder head ports.

* higher capacity fuel pump and fuel injectors.

* Custom made exhaust and intake manifold.聽

* custom designed software (the development of the custom software can take some time and cost a lot of money).

* The compression ratio should be lowered on a turbocharged engine. This can either be done by using shorter connection rods, lower pistons or modification of the cilinder head.

In my opinion you should only start such a project if you have the ability and tools to perform all modifications yourself. If not you need to have very deep pockets for such a project. Another point of concern can be driveabilty and reliability. It can take a long time of investigations and further development to get what you want.

Thanks for your reply JW

and your knowledge on the subject聽

i didn't realise how into depth you had to go and if there would be later issues, Evan after all work, I'm聽seriously reconsidering the idea after your response, as I'm willing to spend a sensible amount on this project but no the amount this would clearly require.

looks like the engine will just end up with some fancy bits聽

thanks again and sorry for delayed reply

cheers Chris聽
