Dodgy u-turn and failing to give way - Inaudible indicators GGGRRR!

The guy in the first clip did a u-turn at a bank of traffic lights and by the time he had completed it, the traffic to the right of the camera had gone to green! In the second clip, despite me indicating right and having right of way, the van driver went anyway! I hope I never have an incident where I need to prove I was indicating though because the indicators are ridiculously quiet and inaudible!! - Footage from Roadhawk DC-2.

Not only did he fail to give way to you, he also cut straight across the roundabout itself.  Moron!!

I cranked the volume right up and can just about hear the indicator.

That's the problem with new cars I find, the indicators are so damn quiet!  I prefer the "click-clack" of pre-2000 cars which is very audible unless it is broken.

Problem is though, even if you can hear the indicator that doesn't say which way you were indicating, and if he wanted he could claim that you were indicating left and he therefore had the right of way to pull out.

What would be a good idea for future dash-cams is a system whereby they recognise indicator functions and can record that information too, as well as your brake use to show when you have your brake lights on etc...

True. Luckily in insurance disputes its a case of the balance of probabilities so I guess they would conclude why on earth would I indicate left but turn right. Although some insurers just go split liability for the quiet life!

There are already systems like this in use, in specialist areas (emergency vehicles - ever seen police camera action, where L, B and S flash at the bottom?), some built in arctic systems). At the very simplest, you could wire up a few leds to the indicators, brake, clutch, etc and have them just visible in frame (say at the bottom of the dashboard).
