Hi all

Three weeks ago a placed  an order for the new style titanium Fiesta. In the proccess I came across a couple of oddities. If you want a spare wheel you cannot have the B&O audio system as they place a sub woofer in the spare wheel well. I admit I am not an expert on audio systems but with a boot load of luggage I would think the output from the sub woofer would be badly affected. Also you cannot have a spare wheel if you want the sliding panoramic roof. The reason for this could not be explained by the dealer and I have not been able to find anything on the internet. Suspect they may have put some kind of drive amplifier in the well. It also seems strange that although you can order the new style Fiesta Ford don't seemed to have started an advertising campaign for it. At least I haven't seen anything in the national press or television. Maybe some of you out there know why.

Ford won't start advertising the new Fiesta until the demos arrive in dealers, which is around July.

Order books always open up about 3 months before it's advertised. I'm waiting for the new ST.

Also with regards panoramic roof and spare wheel, it might just be a case of weight.

That explains the advertising. I also was going to wait for the Vignale to come online later in the year but that would not have given me an option of a spare wheel at all. If anyone is wondering why I want a spare wheel, the reason is some years ago I had the misfortune of hitting a large lump of metal in the road in the very early hours of the morning and it put an eight inch gash in the tyre which the now installed emergency tyre repair kit would have had no chance in repairing and would have resulted in recovery and a long wait for a tyre firm to replace.

One of the reasons they make the spare wheel optional is because many people don't know how to change it anyway, so would have to wait for recovery, lol.

I'll be getting the B&O system with sub, so guess I'll have to forgo the spare.

That said the boot space in my Focus is abysmal as I have the spare and sub under the boot carpet.

Nothing stopping you having your own spare in the boot, rather than the wheel well though. Cars like the original MX-5 didn't have a well, it was just in the boot next to the battery.

No way I'd drive a car with no spare wheel.   In my 60 odd years of driving I've had a number of punctures that the tyre repair kit would have stood no chance with.   As soon as I got my current Fiesta I bought a spare.

And let's not forget that they're keeping the government happy with lowering emissions! Spare wheels are heavy. It's completely coincidental that not including a spare wheel is also cheaper... Honest 😝

The ironic thing about  no spare wheel for less weight less emissions is:   The most economical (advertised mpg) that ford sell right now is the Fiesta Econetic 1.5tdci. And  the Econetic is only one where you get a spare wheel chucked in as standard - and even better, it is not a space saver, it is the same size as those on the car (175/65/14).  I have one.

No way i would have a car with no spare wheel either.

I had to use the gunk kit once, made it about half a mile toward the garage before the tyre deflated. I'll never use it again - spare is far better.

I'd be happy to sacrifice the spare for audio quality. But that's because I know ford would taking care of roadside assistance costs due to the car being serviced by them. 

 

If I was doing a particularly long journey I'd maybe consider a spacesaver in the boot but it'd take some persuading. I've had to fit a spare once and that would have been sealable if I had sealant as it was a small nail Hole. Only noticed it after the car had been stood 

 

Such a shame about the rear end on the new ST :(

The rear on the 'new' Fiesta really isn't pleasant!

The rear end is the biggest exterior improvement to me. I've always felt Ford's saloons and estates looked so much better than their hatches. Now the fiesta shares the same design.

The ST rear diffuser isn't quite as nice as the outgoing one, but the rest of the rear I really like.

So true @alexp999 not many people know how to change a wheel, I really think this should be part of the test, if it sent already. Test centres could very easily have a dummy rig set up to change a wheel. Lessons are at least an hour long so could easily be taught in one lesson when going over car maintenance.

Ford are starting to make you pay for their assistance now, like you said @GingerFlame they used to extend it each year if you serviced the car with them. That is changing though [emoji53] the free assistance is one of the main reasons I would use a dealership rather than an indie specialist. When you used your spare did you get the small hole in the tyre repaired? I assume with it being a nail it wasn't in the sidewall. If you had used the gunk to repair it then that would have been the end of the tyre and depending on wheel size and tyre choice you could have been out to the tine of £80-100.

I always have a spare, got a full size in the fiesta and mondeo.

Looking at the published price list I think I will go for the ST Line X 3 door 140 with spare wheel, camera and reverse sensors, Red body / Black roof + matching ST Line X red pack interior, Comfort pack, Driver assistance pack.

I would never consider a car without a spare so the B&O is out, as is the roof.

If you really want the roof or B&O system and a spare just buy the spare separately and stick it in a bag in the boot.

I'll probably end up doing that. Will take up less boot space than the system in my focus.

Looks like the spare wheel brigade are winning on this one. I agree with  Jonro2009 that changing a wheel should be included in the driving test.

With the Titanium I have ordered I have included all the extra options to bring it up toTitanium X ( which is not available till later in the year) standard, minus B&O (I'm high tone deaf anyway) and panoramic roof (I look out the windscreen when driving not the roof).

The only gripe I have got is that the full leather seats is only available on the Vignale and not even an option on either the Titanium X or Titanium.

Leather is overrated@jsk easily scratched with the metal on jeans etc. They are cold in the winter and hot as hell in the summer (before the heated/cooled seats fire up). I prefer cloth for those reasons. Leather can look better and more easily cleaned though.

The damage shouldn't technically have been repaired but Im good friends with the fitter and couldn't afford a replacement hence it was repaired for a month before replacement. Was tempted to use some gunk just to make his life hell changing the tyre and cleaning up 😂

 

Silly that they're going to start charging...

Ford dealerships still give 12 month road side assistance. just not on their cheaper service You still get it on the Blue service.

Dismiss the 'request test drive' using top right cross then click 'Price Lists' and select 'All New Fiesta'

Just spoke with my local dealer and they've said the st line won't be out til next year when the st is. Not sure what to do now! Keep my current st line, swap back to an st or go the focus route

Find that hard to believe when it's already on the March price list.

Are they sure about that?

It's only the Active and ST which are due next year afaik.

I'm double checking.
However on the configurator on the Ford site the st line isn't an option to choose?

I've been told the Zetec and Titanium's will be arriving in dealers in July, I'd guess the ST line will be a few months after maybe. Perhaps even early autumn due to summer shutdown.

But I'd expect you to be able to order the ST line by the time the Zetec and Titanium's are in dealers.
