heya,

i have managed to ruin one of my wheels in a pot hole, i remember reading somewhere you can use a MK 6 or MK 6.5 steel wheel. Obviously as its the new fiesta i dont have a spare wheel just a tyre destroyer kit.

Can someone pleaase confirm what other steel wheel i can use for the time being whilst im waiting for the new one to arrive. etc...

Many Thanks

Martyn

What has happened to your wheel? was it an alloy?

All previous Fiesta wheels will fit the hub (at least back to the Mk4) Just make sure its the same size

thankyou, i managed to go through a pot hole, i had no choice either because traffic was coming the other way and ive managed to squash one of the round bits between the spokes into a flat.

Tyres need replacing anyway so...

Any ideas of cost, will contact ford tomorrow dreading the price though... it was the 16" ones i believe... the one up from the standard titanium ones.

Alloy from ford will be around the £100 mark Link

Tyre will also be about same price for a decent one, you may be told to replace both front tyres if the other one has wear

Also be sure they do balancing, and alignment (tracking) on both wheels

All in for one alloy, two tyres, balancing, alignment, fitting, labour, etc you could end up looking at £300 - £500ish for a Ford quote, prepare do haggle down! (seriously - dont let them rip you off)

On this matter,

I have a 15" space saver but 16" alloys on the car. Im guessing you can see my problem here

Where can i find a 16" space saver and will it still fit in the boot?

Im guessing that although your alloys are bigger, they also have lower profile tyres, making the circumference of the two more or less equal.

I dont think a bigger spare would fit in the boot.

Driving with a spacesaver you should limit your speed to the one written on the spacesaver in the boot (somewhere between 30 and 50mph)

Yeh it is lower profile tyres.

I will need to try fitting the space saver while cleaning the alloys and see how it looks, never thought of the difference in tyres circumference

Thanks :D

I have just put a tyre on a full size standard alloy for a titanium as a spare and it does fit in the wheel well just about, you have to fit it face up and use something to stop it rocking and making a noise (an old rubber car mat cut in half under the wheel worked for me) and something to secure the wheel like a bungie cord or you could make a simple screw clamp which I will probably do when I get some time.

You'll want to be sure you secure it good and proper, you wouldn't want that thing flying forwards in a crash...

Go back to the pot hole and take photos of it, preferably ith something to scale it and put a claim in against the local council. It's there duty to maintain the roads to a satisfactory condition and clearly this hole isn't.

More info here.

cool thankyou for that site... ive got photos of the wheel etc.. and as it snowed here the hole is covered up. so will take a walk when it clears a bit... the council are sending me a form, i will be chasing it to the end...

So far £120 for the wheel from ford... Collect about 2pm today then another £75 for a Avon tyre!.. Changing the other tyre too so another £75, im hoping thats where it stops... Ford wanted £110 for a Continentil Tyre so went to a local Tyre company...

well keep you posted, i have the 16" sculpture wheels BTW.

Cant get a spare no 16" spare wheel was made and nor was they made on the old fiestas either... :( checked...

You'll need a 15" spare wheel with a higher profile that will give a similar rolling radius to the 16" wheel. Use this site to compare rolling radius to the wheels/tyres you have.

Here you go

So for example a 195/45/16 wheel tyre combo has an overall diameter of 22.9"

a 195/50/15 wheel tyre combo has an overall diameter of 22.67"

Which gives a 1% difference in diameter which is well within the 3% max advised.

A 195/60/14 is 1.35% difference in diameter, again well within limits. You have the added bonus in that you won't have to drive to the limits of a spacesaver when it's used but make sure you get the original sized tyre replced ASAP.
