Sync - 'USB device not recognised'

Hi all,

I'm having issues with the Sync in my '62 plate Fiesta Zetec - whenever I connect my iPod Touch (5th gen), the display shows 'USB initializing.  Please wait...' but ultimately flashes up with 'USB device not recognised'.  Anyone have any ideas?

Cheers,

Mart

Sync has always been very buggy and never really got fixed till the touch screens came out in the focus.

I've had this issue sometimes but usually if I leave it or unplug and plug it back in again it works eventually. I leave my ipod in my car all the time now so don't really have this issue anymore. It only gets removed if I'm in a dodgy area or need to add new songs.

Does the ipod work over bluetooth? If not then it's probably a fault with the ipod somewhere. You should also see if you ever get the problem using another compatable device.

Could try removing fuses for sync and see if that resets it.

Make sure you’re using a 100% genuine Apple cable, I have found they can go funny otherwise in data processing and using cheap 3rd party cables has caused issues for me using Sync in the past

make sure your device is unlocked as well. An old fashioned reboot sometimes does the trick as well.

Thanks for the replies - I've reset my iPod and done the Sync fuse trick with no result; maybe it is a cable issue cos it's not an Apple Lightning cable, so that's my next stop ...

Bleurgh ...

Martin it could be the unit itself that's faulty try an iPhone see if that works I've got a spare unit I can send if all else fails.

Oh god yeah. I completely forgot about that. I just sort of assume the cables are genuine as I have a Samsung and any genuine micro usb is compatible.

Thought so, something to do with 3rd party ones and Apple devices just doesn't mix unfortunately!

Enjoy :)
