OBD port and pins 7&8 joined?????

I am looking at getting Forscan but I already have a couple of different OBD cables from my BMW days. But they are standard VW cables with pins 7-8 soldered together I know this because I did it:biggrin:

My question is will a Ford go bang if I plug one in? what do 7 and 8 do on a Ford?
