Does Colour Matter?

Hi Everyone,

Just wondered what your thoughts were about whether the colour of your car mattered too you? When you bought your last car did you base your decision on the importance of the colour of your car. Or if you found the car that you so wanted but didn’t go much on the colour, would you still buy it?

What colour cars do you hate!

I feel the colour is an important part of a car, not necessarily a deciding factor for everyone but I do think some of the colours cars come in aren't that great, like green for example it suits some cars but not all.

I don't go for red as they always seem to fade too fast plus seem to draw angry people.

TBH I find the Nitro Blue of the RS to be a bit too gaudy for me and the Tangerine Scream on the ST shouts "scratch me".

My work car is white (but not through choice)and my current car is Shadow Black (previous was Deep Impact Blue).

To add to my first post and what stoney said, I have heard that red cars fade faster, although the fiesta red and black edition is very nice looking.

I do love some of the blues that you can get on fords, spirit blue for example looks amazing and even vision blue is pretty nice aswell.

I think it does, no point driving round in a car that you dislike because of the colour...on saying that, that's what im doing currently, as I dislike Red  cars, but I have a red fiesta, but i cant complain as i had it bought for me after my last accident.  If it was down to me I'd have black, blue, white, etc.

I like 'strong' blue colours, like Performance or Impact blue, not the lighter 'watercolour' type blues.  Black looks professional and grown up, looks fantastic when clean and new, but shows every single mark badly, I wouldn't choose black again.  I don't like red cars (despite having owned 5 lol), solid red fades to pink, and I just simply don't like metallic red!  I hate most white cars...but admit it looks alright on some high end stuff though.  If I could choose my next colour, it'd be a dark metallic/pearlescent grey...  

All that said, buying a used car means you have very little choice over colour usually...  It shouldn't be a top priority.  If it's the right car and not a horrific colour (some are just so awful I'd be put off dinner seeing it out the window! ) then it's worth considering imo...

Deep Impact blue is a beautiful colour when clean.
I used to get a lot of good comments from people (once from a Ferrari owner and a few times from Porsche owners).
I went Shadow Black this time as I wanted something a bit more stealthy, I know it will be a pig to keep clean but so worth the effort.

One of our friends daughter has a new Fiesta in mint green! Nice enough car but surely choosing a colour like that will narrow your chances of selling? Although saying that, it's probably on a PCP type of thing so won't be as much of a problem for her but for future buyers....

It's not just dirt for me, it's all the stone chips and bush scuffs that show up badly as well, even when its perfectly clean the front end and passenger side looks pretty bad.   Obviously not an issue on a new car though, and I guess you only keep yours a couple of years so shouldn't be an issue for yourself!

That's probably a limited edition B&O play spec though?  So should still be sought after when it comes to selling.  One of my Nans neighbours has just bought one as well...it's even worse in the flesh than the adverts imo!

I wouldn't have said colour matters for me per se...I wanted to get a Fiesta ST-Line 140 in either white or black but more importantly I wanted a 3 door because I think it looks better than the 5 door...communications kinda broke down between dealerships when going through their stock (The company had multiple dealerships) and the white 3 door I wanted turned out to be a 5 door...with no white or black left as Ford were selling the last of the MK7 Fiesta ST-Lines (This was May 2017)...so after looking through the stock list I settled on a Red and Black Edition which actually has really grown on me...despite the fact that in a few years it'll be pink

 

Is it bad that I always hated the ST-Line in Deep Impact Blue?

Your current ST3 was a Deep Impact Blue but now is a Shadow Black! Did you have a full body respray?

Come on guys show a little love for the red team, COME ON YOU REDS.

My last four cars have been red.

Vauxhall Vector owned for 4 years, started fading.

Ford Mondeo MK2, owned for 9 years, colour perfect when it went to the recycling god's 

Vauxhall Astra, owned for 6 months, couldn't wait to part ex it for my current Focus, when I saw it, it was love at first sight, and to think I used to hate red cars, funny how your decisions change over the years.

had a red metro 1980, red astra 1983, red cavalier1989.red mazda3 mps 2011. the mazda was the only one that didnt fade.so ive had share of red.done the silver cars now on my blue phase.

I had a red 1983 mk1 fiesta, had it for 6 years but in the end the paint faded and looked very tired, few years later I got a red 1997 corsa only had it for 6 months before I got rid, as it started fading drastically, vowed never to get another red car, to date I have kept to my word, but these days red paints have definitely improved, with less fading and decent shades and finishes, red certainly impresses when clean and polished like wiltos focus above.

i bought my white fiesta purly because i like white, the car popped on the forcourt and i was instantly drawn to it. due too the white, my mom and dad have had new white cars so its probably the fact iv been brought up to it, my dads got a white mokka, but my mom has gone for a black with silver flek on her sangong rexton, i must say the rexton looks very nice with the silver flek in it,

For me it’s not a deciding factor but I do think about what it might do to the resale value. PCP or not it’s still going to matter when you chop it in, it will effect the equity you are left with on the PCP. Loud garish colours are less desirable when buying second hand and I’ve also been told that superstitious people won’t buy green. Each to their own bough and I always think that if I like a colour then there is bound to be someone else that likes it too lol

Seems to be a lot of red around, lol. 

My first car was a canary yellow austin metro. Next was a dark blue austin maestro, I loved this car. Then the third car came along which started the birth of being a Ford owner, a dark blue mk1 fiesta. The fourth car was a rosso red mk4 escort, the colour didn’t fade with this. Then the fifth car was a rosso red mk5 escort, this red did fade. Then came along my sixth and current car a moondust metallic silver mk1.5 Focus, I love this car! Moondust metallic silver always looks clean. She’s coming up to her 10th MOT next week since I bought her in 2007. Unfortunately I’ll have to replace her very soon due to health reasons.

I like moondust silver, deep impact blue, white, metallic grey, candy blue and red. Not struck on black. Don’t mind a red, i recently saw a red Focus for sale on the autotrader website and it was lovely. I’ve never had a black, white or grey car but would consider having a white car.

I would like my next Focus to have black interior. Does anyone else find that grey interiors reflect back the sun onto the inside of the windscreen which makes it difficult to see on country lanes under the trees with the sun blazing through the trees?

I've had many colours over the years, blue, red, black, maroon, gold, bright yellow (the 76 mk2 Escort) and now a very light green that could pass for blue in some people's eyes, my wife swears it isn't green but my eyes say it is, just like the log book. I actually prefer black, but I can appreciate a nice car whatever the colour.

What do you all think of black, dark grey and midnight blue colours in cars? Do they show the dirt, chips and scratches up well?

White is the worst for showing dirt, never owned a white car but my work vans have all been white. As for chips and scratches, I think they show more on darker colours.
