I use www.camskill.co.uk to buy tyres and get them fitted at my local Formula1Autocentre. I have used BlackCircles before if the deal is good. One thing, I checked the pressure a few days after the tyres were fitted and one was at 46psi the other at 41 when both should have been 30. wilto Posted January 20, 2018 Share Posted January 20, 2018 I know everyone's opinions are different, but I've just put a set of 4 ROADSTONE EUROVIS Sport04 on my car 3 week's ago, initial views on these tyres are excellent, really quite and the ride quality excellent (compared to my last budget tyres) grip in wet, dry, light snow, absolutely fine. They've set their balancer to fine, super fine or race mode depending on machine (presuming their balancer is able) and your find some small weights (2.5g) on the inner of the wheels then as even budget machines normally balance down to 5g.. JW1982 Posted January 21, 2018 Share Posted January 21, 2018 Without knowing the exact definition of "precision balancing" it is very difficult to determine if this service is actually worth the extra money or not. Personally I do not want the weights to be visible from the outside. I always ask specifically to put the weights only behind the spokes of the wheels. Mounting tyres / balancing the wheels this way takes significantly more time than standard mounting/balancing. I am more than willing to pay an additional fee for this. Last Year I paid €80,- to mount the tyres and balance 4 wheels this way at a local tyre specialist. stef123 Posted January 21, 2018 Share Posted January 21, 2018 Some of the fancy machines can apply load using a roller, these are called a road force balancer. There are all sorts of machines out there claiming to do things others can't, just how much of it is actually worthwhile, well... Also some machines can be set to hide the weights behind the spokes, you load in the data using a laser pointer and it calculates where to position them so they are hidden. I have a bog standard type balancer which works very well (as pictured). I ain't to bothered about hiding weights and to be honest I've never come across someone who is lol. It takes me to keep my wheels 'round' in shape never mind getting fancy with them With my motorbike tyre i will try to position the tyre to the best spot to hopefully get away without needing any weights but those are not dynamically balanced like a car wheel, they are static balanced. It is the same machine but the precision balance uses an add on to the existing machine to ensure the higher level of accuracy. It is recommended that all 17 inch wheels and above should all be precision balanced, due to the balancing being exaggerated on larger wheel sizes" That aside, what pi**ed me off was that they left one tire with 46psi the other with 41 when both should have been at 30. They have always just done it that way for me! Anyways, tyres. My focus had Michelin Primacy's on it. The car had been sat for a number of years doing not very much until I got it. I hated the tyres from day one. Tram lining and just generally being horrible. Got them changed to Avon ZV7's and the car feels so much better for it. I switched from Kumho tyres (cant remember the model) and straight away noticed the lack of road noise i was used to. Grip in the dry, feels much the same but a significant wet grip improvement.
