Mondeo St220 Advice

I've become a great fan of the Mondeo and so looking to upgrade from the Ghia X to an ST220, now as we have so many great people on the site who like to help and offer advice, I'm after some advice on the ST220.


I'm being very specific on the type I'm looking for, as I want either the one with the cream leather interior or the red/cream, im also looking for the one with the Nav installed so I am aware it will take me a while before I spot one again (I've already seen one, just didn't have the cash at the time to purchase). Once purchased it will be going straight in for a full service and full drain on both oil and fuel.


So what do I need to look out for from the ST220, is there anything I should take into consideration before buying one. I'm hoping to pick one up around 50,000 - 80,000 on clock, as I know with my own that these engines will do at least 200,000 if they are looked after properly. 


Anyway as always, all help and advice is greatly appreciated.

Key Cutting Code

Where would I find the code for a key cutter, as my key for car is so beyond recognition they can't copy & cut so they require the code for the key to make a replacement.

Replacement Key

I swear this car just hates me right now.


Besides going to Ford, who rip the hell out of you in terms of ££££ to replace.


Anyone know of any good reliable place, that I can get a replacement key from (that doesn't cost the earth). I've found mine has become heavily worn around the middle to base of the key and so now struggling to open the steering lock.

Loss Of Power

Ok here I am once again, with some more woes of the Mondeo.


So the car went through MoT, but since the MoT I've noticed an issue with performance. Now normally when I hit the high rev range, from 1st through to 3rd I can feel the toque in ranges of 3000 - 5000 and can feel the pull. However in the last couple of days, I've seemed to have lost that toque. I'm at a loss at what it could possibly be and so many thing are running through my head of possibilities that all I'm now seeing is £££££££.


So some of the things that I think it is.




I'm not noticing any slipping with the clutch, or drop downs in power (though on occasion it does a little spit in 3rd).




Nothing noticeable from the gearbox, it does have a little left/right shake but it's not dropping out of gear or grinding.




I do have some damage to the exhaust, the sleeve on first section from manifold is not holding in place (Noticed this before MoT). I've not fully checked the exhaust since, but I do get a rattle from it on backend more than what I should do.


The only other thing I can hazard a guess at, are things like fuel filter, air filters, injectors and other bits.


Anyone else have any input to what could be causing the issue?

As an after thought, I did recently have to top the oil up from almost empty and it's played up since......

Just wanted to say a big thank you, to everyone who has helped with advice and other things.


The car went through the MOT today, after having a huge amount of money spent on it to get it fixed.


So thank you to all those who helped me on my way.
