#506103 Things I Don't Like

Insurers who use "their preferred garages" just so they can save a few quid on repairs

#505923 Mk2 Focus Diagnostic Port No Power.

Posted by Russ on 25 July 2015 - 11:38 AM

Is the port he's using the 'real' diagnostics port as some people have moved the 'real' port to a new hidden position and replaced it with a fake port! And has he checked the problem doesn't lie with his reader?

#504838 Windscreen Replacement

They were 5 mm apart. One was a 'bullseye' the other a 'star-break' which encroached into the bullseye and both were also in the wiper sweep area above the stearing wheel. An MOT failure. I should add the total damaged area was larger than a 10 pence piece.

#504837 Reduced Power + Testing

Here's a good description explaining how to test the leads, if you find one that doesn't give any reading then that's a bad one. https://www.ngk.de/e...gnition-cables/
The plugs and leads I normally change Every 3 years (or sooner if your doing a high mileage) and the coil could last the life of the car or it can break down at any point ( it went on my fiesta at 35,000 miles and was replaced with an OEM one which was still ok when we sold the car with 101,5000 miles on it in March) it's just the luck of the draw.
When I change ours I'll be buying bosche super4 plugs as I used them on our fiesta and had no problems, throttle felt sharper as well.

Check the resistance of your plug leads in case one has 'gone', I drove for about a year with an annoying hesitancy that felt like a very very light misfire that I could only feel at a certain RPM, changed air filter & plugs but it was still there, then used a meter on the leads, it was only then that I found the lead to cylinder 3 had no resistance at all, one set of leads later it was all perfect again.

#504767 Damaged Door

I've actually got an unused (still in the wrapper) spare one from my Fiesta I sold in March but it's buried deep in the garage somewhere otherwise Amanda could've had it for nothing.

...forgot to say it's a 03 Ford Ghia, oops!

Genuine part and fits perfectly, just break off the old clips that are left on your door pillar first before fitting the new one, sometimes these fall off themselves due to the glue becoming brittle over the cold months.

#504598 Internal Temperature Sensor Location

Posted by Russ on 20 July 2015 - 07:54 PM

The AC needs a sensor to stop it freezing. There is one behind the panel next to the driver's left foot. It sounds like it or a wire to it has gone open circuit which is sensed and so the system won't cooperate.

Something I don't understand it that my 61 Zetec also doesn't have ACC (obviously) but there is a grille in the panel with the overhead lights. It looks like a sensor aperture but haven't investigated what's behind it. If it is populated I still can't imagine its purpose.

The grill in the overhead lights is for the Bluetooth (microphone) for the phone/voice

#501496 Mother Chuffing Corsa!

Posted by Russ on 09 July 2015 - 07:42 AM

Bad corner! Were they driving with their eyes closed, that's a junction so looks like they've been 'in too much of a hurry' to get there, typical corsa driving 'naff'

Put it in a bag of rice and into a warm cupboard for a few days, it 'might' work after it dries out

If you unlock it and open a door the car will remain unlocked!

#496846 Spot The Poor German Car!

Posted by Russ on 20 June 2015 - 07:39 AM

Spotted around the corner from my work last week! (Hopefully the Facebook link works) I think after all those years of non use the build up of fluff on his indicators caused it to overheat, and up she went!
