#516924 Window Chip

Posted by Russ on 28 August 2015 - 05:45 PM

Depends how big the chip is and where it is, just had ours replaced (through insurance...£75 excess) by Autoglass and can't complain. (Don't look online at the horror stories!) ours also has auto lights and auto wipers and they all work as expected.

#515811 Help!!!

When you accelerate in 2nd gear (or any gear for that matter) put your foot on the accelerator quickly, if your clutch is slipping you'll see the RPM rise quickly but your road speed will stay the same, if this happens, your clutch is slipping and needs renewed.

Many factors come into play.
Crime statistics are one of them.
You could live in an area with zero car crime reports which gives a quote in your favour.
One day someone in your area gets a wing mirror snapped off, they choose to report this to their local force and therefore car crime shows a 100% jump in that area.
This can be enough to add many pounds to a car policy.
Voting status, house prices, postcode, marital status, age, employment status/job title, etc. All make a big difference.

As does telling your insurance company your car is kept in a locked secure works car park when your on night shift! A mates insurance actually went up when he told them this!!!!
I've got a preferential rate on my insurance due to a family member working with the company, a few times I've called them and asked why the new premium has risen greatly when I haven't made any claim since being with them in over 20 odd years. Last year their excuse was the quote was based on a car valued at £6000 (it was when I originally bought it in 2007!) but as It was now a 10 year old Fiesta Zetec 1.4 it would be worth a lot less, so I said it was probably worth £1500 (or less) their quote suddenly dropped to less than I was originally paying! RIP OFF Britain or what!

Your postcode also comes into play when getting a quote, I'm in EH54 (classed as Livingston) yet if I lived 100 yards across the road in another postcode area my insurance would be cheaper!

#509069 Front End Knocking And Rattle

Posted by Russ on 04 August 2015 - 07:11 PM

thanks guys, how would i check if the bottom ball joint is on its way out? i have new track rod ends and drop links on there way as my thinking was better to replace as much as i can now, and these were a reasonable cost, but at £70 min for both sides if i need to replace the wishbone and the work it will entail i would rather make sure they actually need replacing 1st

Jack the front wheel up and grip it at 3/9 o clock and turn it left/right then grip it at top/bottom and do the same again any play if bad enough will be seen at the balljoints. You can also use something to lever against the balljoints to see if there's any movement

#507789 Windows 10 Free Upgrade ??

Posted by Russ on 31 July 2015 - 05:39 PM

There is a FULL ISO of windows 10 available from Microsoft! You are advised by various websites to 'upgrade' to windows 10 through windows update so your version of windows 10 is validated. Once validated there is also an authorised tool you can download which when run will bring up your windows 10 reg code so you can do a fresh install from either a DVD or USB drive but you won't be able to install it onto another PC.

#505923 Mk2 Focus Diagnostic Port No Power.

Posted by Russ on 25 July 2015 - 11:38 AM

Is the port he's using the 'real' diagnostics port as some people have moved the 'real' port to a new hidden position and replaced it with a fake port! And has he checked the problem doesn't lie with his reader?

#504838 Windscreen Replacement

Posted by Russ on 21 July 2015 - 05:39 PM

They were 5 mm apart. One was a 'bullseye' the other a 'star-break' which encroached into the bullseye and both were also in the wiper sweep area above the stearing wheel. An MOT failure. I should add the total damaged area was larger than a 10 pence piece.

#504837 Reduced Power + Testing

Posted by Russ on 21 July 2015 - 05:28 PM

Here's a good description explaining how to test the leads, if you find one that doesn't give any reading then that's a bad one. https://www.ngk.de/e...gnition-cables/
The plugs and leads I normally change Every 3 years (or sooner if your doing a high mileage) and the coil could last the life of the car or it can break down at any point ( it went on my fiesta at 35,000 miles and was replaced with an OEM one which was still ok when we sold the car with 101,5000 miles on it in March) it's just the luck of the draw.
When I change ours I'll be buying bosche super4 plugs as I used them on our fiesta and had no problems, throttle felt sharper as well.

Check the resistance of your plug leads in case one has 'gone', I drove for about a year with an annoying hesitancy that felt like a very very light misfire that I could only feel at a certain RPM, changed air filter & plugs but it was still there, then used a meter on the leads, it was only then that I found the lead to cylinder 3 had no resistance at all, one set of leads later it was all perfect again.

#504767 Damaged Door

I've actually got an unused (still in the wrapper) spare one from my Fiesta I sold in March but it's buried deep in the garage somewhere otherwise Amanda could've had it for nothing.
