What Controls The Throttle.

14 October 2015 - 06:56 AM

What exactly controls the throttle on a 1.6tdci. I'm assuming its electronic rather than mechanical. My throttle seems to have a bit of a delayed reaction. I drove a hire car last week and as soon as you pushed the throttle pedal the revs climbed. With mine there's a brief pause

Could this be software related or a sensor?

It's a 2012 1.6tdci.

Many thanks

Gear Change 2012 1.6tdci

07 October 2015 - 08:02 AM

Hi all

Don't know if anyone can help me but I'm sure I have a problem with the gear change in my car. First thing I should say is that all the gears work and they slot in nice and easily. This is more about the feel and the strength of the clutch.

A year ago I had the clutch changed under warranty by ford because my car clunks when changing gear and it squealed when pulling away up hill. so it has a relatively new clutch but I now have a 1.6 tdci focus as a hire care for two days and it's apparent that the feel of the clutch is so much more positive.

With my car you really have to rev it and pull the clutch in slowly to get any thing like a smooth pull away with this one you can just go without thinking too much about it.

But my clutch just don't feel that strong. For example if you really want to pull away with gusto you just can't in my car whereas with this car you can spin the wheels up and all sorts.

So if I have a year old clutch. Is there anything else hat could be at fault. Like master or slave cylinders?

I will probably take it to ford but they just say it works ok. And now the car is 5 months out of warranty.

So if anyone has any thoughts or experienced this could you please tell me what you think.

Many thanks

My Focus Seems Slower Than A Mondeo With The Same Engine

13 June 2015 - 04:38 PM

Hi all

I have come across a confusing situation and I am beginning to wonder if I'm going mad or if my car has an issue.

My brother and sister in law have just bought a 2012 mondeo titanium with a 1.6tdci engine. I own a 2012 focus 1.6 tdci titanium x. Both engines are 115bhp.

I took it round the block just to see how they compare and I was surprised to find that the mondeo seemed keener to get going when you pull away and it felt faster. With my focus you really have to give it a boot full of revs to get it to pull away anything like spritley.

Last year the focus went in to ford to have a new clutch fitted under warranty as there was a clunk when you changed from 1st to 2nd and a squeal when pulling away up hill. The new clutch fixed the squeal but the clunk remains. Ford tell me this is "normal"!!!

So now I'm wondering if my focus is poorly or not. It starts fine drives smoothly once you have pulled away and there is no smoke or anything untoward. But it feels slower than the mondeo.

I appreciate that I could be just imagining it but there really does seem to be a difference especially when pulling away.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this.

Hi all

I know this topic has probably been done to death but I thought I would ask for your opinions.

I need a set of new tyres and I can't decide what I want.

Currently the car has the original tyres it came with Michelin primacy hp. They have done 29000 miles and I can't say I have any complaints.

But I'm looking at these new sort of Eco tyres thinking should I get these. The ones I'm looking at are dunlop blue response or goodyear efficient performance.

But then I've seen good things about hankook ventus evo2 k120 and they are a bit cheaper.

So I don't know know.

Does anyone have any experience with any of these tyres they want to share.

I suppose I'm mainly after a decent mix of economy, handling and quietness.

Many thanks

Sump Plug Washer.

09 February 2015 - 11:15 AM

Hi all

I'm probably being dim, but I'm trying to get all the bits I need to do a mini interim service in my 2012 1.6 tdci.

Ford parts uk seem to do most of the parts at very reasonable price but one item they don't seem to do is the sump plug washer.

I've found one place, micks garage that does them but they want more for delivery than they do for the part.

Does anyone know the finis part number if there is one. Or where I can find a washer or a pack of washers at a reasonable price.

By all accounts it needs to be m10 with a 20mm diameter and 1.8mm thick.
