i would never use a jump start as the smart charge system will try and zap 18 volts into the dead battery which can fry componants.

just putting a new belt on to see if anything in the head is damaged is madness and could cause even more damage than there allready is.

#313490 New Rules On Dpf Removal Starting Feb 2014

Posted by mintalkin on 19 December 2013 - 08:05 PM

if VOSA are involved they will know all the loopholes around removal and will know how to get round them, its funny how these tuning companies will never say thats its illegal to remove and you will be uninsured if you do not inform your insurance but then they wouldnt would they, i have had dealings with VOSA on commercial vehicles and you will not fool them.

because led's do not pull the same power you will need a resistor fitting.

#301511 Mk4 Xr3I Cutting Out - Lots

Posted by mintalkin on 01 November 2013 - 03:59 PM

is there an electrical box on the side of the dizzy, if so its a ignition amplifier and they were well known for failing and causing cutting out problems and eventually a non start. this may well not be the problem but its someware to start, without an inspection its hard to say.

#296245 18 To Learn To Drive

Posted by mintalkin on 12 October 2013 - 02:12 PM

driving lessons should cover all the basic driving conditions, i wonder how many young drivers take lessons and pass their test without ever driving in the dark? i agree somthing should be done to stop the 'i am invinsable attitude' of the young drivers once they have passed their test, i do not agree with black boxes as insurance companies can use it as an excuse not to pay out ( you were 3mph over the limit sir) restricting engine size is not the answer also as you can be as dangerous in a 1ltr as you can in a 3ltr, as my old instructer said once you pass your test you learn to drive, extending the basic driving test  would be a good idear as they could get a better idear of a pupil's attitude to driving, anybody who has an hgv licence like myself will remember the 4 hour test. whatever they decide will not please everybody but something has to done.

#292608 Cutting Out And Speedo Malfuntioning

i would say the speed sensor is playing up, check the wiring for damage but you may need a new sensor.

#290274 Spark Plugs

Posted by mintalkin on 15 September 2013 - 07:25 AM

i always confirm that the plug gaps are correct before fitting, yours should be 1.3mm, also if your doing this job for the first time do one plug at a time you would be suprised how many people pull all the plugs leads off at once and then forget which plug they go on.

#282357 Metal License Plates

Posted by mintalkin on 14 August 2013 - 03:03 PM

according to the BS rules numberplates have to be made from a retroreflecting material and metal is not classed as so even if painted, so the bs mark cannot be put on the plates hence illegal, if they were legal we would sell them, metal plates only allowed on cars before 1.1.1973, also domed letters on a plate are also illegal because they are not an intrigal part of the plate, only stuck on and they could be removed and miss represented, carbon effect letters are ok if they are 51% black and built into the plate and of course charles write font.
