Sounds like the head gasket has gone. Take the oil filler cap off to see if there is any mayonnaise looking gunk on the inside of the cap. Also check the oil level to see if its gone up. It may not have as the water evaporates.

Have owned nearly 50 cars over the years most of which have been Fords. Best cars to drive were a Nissan Sylvia Turbo back in the 80's and an Alfa 156 Sportwagon.
Currently own an 11 plate Focus Sport and the wife's got a Clio Dynamique on a 53 plate.

It may just be the difference in braking when compared to the Clio. I bought one for the wife, and although I don't like it, the brakes are good in comparison to my Focus.

I would be tempted to buy a silver paint pen and use that. It wont be perfect but shouldn't be that noticeable

Your garage could be using cheap replacement parts. These do tend to fail quickly but not normally as quick as that. The Ford Main Dealer part is less than £40 and would come with a guarantee. The only other part that could be faulty is the heater control panel which is behind the control knob. It may not be regulating the voltage correctly to operate the solenoid on the heater control valve.

I would go for the big service as some of the service intervals relate to age as much as mileage. Brake fluid should be changed if it hasn't already been as it breaks down over a period of time and becomes contaminated with water.
A good Indy should be OK.
I use a main dealer as I took out a service agreement which worked out cheaper when I bought the car. £519 for 3 years servicing and free European Breakdown cover.
