The Sportka Has Gone

12 January 2013 - 03:09 PM

I had to sell the wifes SportKA as it was going to cost a load to get through the next MOT. The rear chassis mounts were going and it would have meant the fuel tank and brake pipes would have to be removed in order to get these welded up.

On top of that, for the third year running, on return from the Christmas Holidays the thing started mis-fireing again. Having already spent loads on it over the last two years I had had enough so while it had a full MOT I decided to sell it.

I needed to quickly get a replacement as my missus is using my Focus. So before she gets a chance to damage it I had to find something for around £2k. It also needed to be a low insurance group (Group 3)so my daughter can learn to drive in it next year.

Having looked at loads of cars we settled on a low mileage Clio Dynamique (Sorry if Renaults offend anyone) as there was nothing we liked out of all the other makes and models that fits the bill and KA's were out of the question as we have had a few of these already.

At least I will get my Focus back next week. Just hope its still in one piece.

So Pleased With My Focus

20 August 2012 - 04:40 PM

I thought for a change I would post up something positive about how my Focus has coped with the holiday traveling I have been doing. Not that this isn't a positive environment, but most posts relate to issues people are experiencing.

I had a 300 mile each way drive to and from Woolacombe 5 up. Me and 4 women including Wife, Daughter, Niece and Daughters friend. As you can imagine, with 4 women the car was absolutley rammed with luggage, plus wet suits and three body boards. I wasnt driving like a granny by any means, and averaged 41 mpg over the whole holiday including running about while we were in North Devon.

Despite only being a 1.6, the little Focus had no trouble coping with the long hills fully laiden and was an absolute joy to drive.

I got back to Essex on Friday and went to a wedding in Wiltshire on Saturday, Came back on Sunday and just drove to Shropshire today. Again, not taking it particularly easy, the little Focus averaged 44 mpg, three up with luggage this time.

Over the last two weeks I would have done around 2000 miles. The car has now done 9500 miles and due to its recent performance I am delighted with it.

The only engine modification I have is a Pipercross Panel Filter which does seem to make a difference.

If Stoney reads this, I love Devon, and will be back.

Engine Management Light Code P0420

25 June 2012 - 06:25 PM

Hi folks

The Engine Management light came on on the wifes SportKA. I put my code reader on it and it came back with a P0420.

According to my book that means: Catalyst efficiency below threshold (Bank 1).

Can anyone tell me if this is likely to be the catalytic converter or just the Lambda sensor?

If it is the Lambda, is there only the one that sits on top of the manifold on this car?

Thanks for any info.

New St Price List

09 June 2012 - 06:19 PM

Well the starting prices look better than I expected.
Estimated on the road price:

ST 5 Door £21,995 Estate £23,095

ST-2 5 Door £23,495 Estate £24,595

ST-3 5 Door £25,495 Estate £26,595

The price differential between the 5 Door and Estate surprise me though.
