Shiny/glossy Dashboard (Mk 2.5)

20 August 2014 - 08:00 PM

Is anyone elses dashboard really glossy? (And I mean, REALLY glossy)?

I think the dealer I bought it from valeted it with something - i've tried removing it with "Matt finish" cleaner but it's exactly the same.

Anyone have any ideas/suggestions? Is it related to having a heated windscreen?

Speedo

25 March 2014 - 03:27 AM

Anyone else notice a 5mph or so discrepancy between indicated road speed and a sat nav?

If I go 60 my sat nav is telling me 55 - I believe the sat nav.

Can this be changed using elmconfig?

Bluey (For Want Of A Better Name!) 2010 1.6 Zetec Focus

12 February 2014 - 09:57 PM

Well... finally thought to post about my wheels. I do plan to do a few mods so I thought i'd just detail them here, one reason just so I can keep track, and two to get some more ideas about what I can do!

So here he/she is! Done 40k, and the previous owner has really looked after her (along with the garage I bought it from who was responsible for all the service history).

I'll post some pictures of mods that i'll do in future, but so far for mods completed we're at:

  1. Speed dependant locking + auto relocking
  2. Deflation detection system activation
  3. Ignition switchable front cigarette lighter (Was driving me nuts being permanently live!) - Have got some pictures so may write a guide if people want!
  4. Brodit proclip + powered phone bracket
  5. Bluetooth aftermarket stereo
  6. Hard-wired dash cam (Mobius)
  7. Illuminated ignition ring (blue)
  8. Bilateral hi-power white LED strips in boot

And mods/stuff to do include:

  1. Footwell lighting (No bulb holders, going to use the courtesy light/ignition ring loom)
  2. Front parking sensors (button controlled)
  3. Potentially EATC retrofit

Aim of all mods is ease of removal, and "universal" wiring, so it can be removed and refitted to another car with minimal difficulty.

Strange Noise On Acceleration

31 January 2014 - 05:03 PM

Hey guys,

Really pleased so far with the new wheels, have a little niggle that's developed now though.

On acceleration (or just revving the engine), when it's heated up to temperature, past 3000rpm it sounds as if somethings vibrating.

I'm guessing perhaps exhaust / heat shield? (if I open the drivers door when i'm parked up at home it sounds a lot louder as if it's coming from under the car). It still pulls strong and at motorway speeds I don't seem to hear it.

Cheers,

Tom

Ignition Switched 12V Socket

22 January 2014 - 10:46 PM

Hey guys,

Loving my new wheels. Not thought of a name yet (although I will get a project topic started at some point for her!). First issue - the 12v sockets aren't switched - so my multi-way 12v socket remains powered (and continues powering my dash cam and phone charger).

I'd rather not rely on the "low battery relay" i've read about, and have at least one socket switched - from looking at the wiring diagrams I think i've got two choices:

1) Get a couple of fuse taps and a relay, mount in the passenger junction box between the ignition switched live and the 12V accessory socket perm live.

2) Attach a relay near the 12V socket, use a fuse tap from switched live, and run the switched live cable to the relay

I think option 2 would work better, and hopefully allow me to be as least destructive as possible.

Any suggestions?
