Using The Correct Oil

My power steering fluid level has dropped recently so I went and bought some fluid for it from Halfords.


I checked with someone there making sure it's correct to use for my Focus.


Got home and looked at the manual and it says to only use Mercon AFT.


The bottle doesn't mention Mercon AFT, only Mercon V and other types.


Is this still okay to use, has AFT changed since 2001?



Third Gear Issue

In the last week 3rd gear has become a bit of pig to get into.


1,2,4, 5 & R all smoothly go into gear but for some reason 3rd doesn't like going in from 2nd.


I have to go back to 2nd and try again, then it works.


There's no sound changes or changes in driving, just isn't as smooth to get into.


FYI it's a 1.6 Zetec 2001.


Any ideas?



Petrol Pumps Keep Clicking

Hi all,


Recently I put in a bottle of Cat Cleaner on my MK1 Focus, don't ask me how but the little plastic top of the bottle shot off and into the petrol filter/tank.


Ever since it's taking me a lifetime to fill the tank because it keeps clicking as the petrol can't flow as quick.


So, the question I'm asking is, is there an easy way to get access to the filter to remove the little plastic top?



Dashboard Lights & Needles Playing Up

I seem to be having problem after problem with my current motor.


Recently when I've gone to start the car up only 4 out of the full dash lighting up appear (oil, handbrake, engine & another light).


When it does this the needles don't move either, even when I pull away they all stay at the bottom.


I have to keep turning the key back and forth before they all light up and go off and the needles swing round.


When the needles do go round it resets the current mileage count?


Any ideas what could be cauing it?

Oil Drops & Rises

Not sure what's going on with my engine's oil.


I checked it the other day in the morning (hadn't been driven for around 12 hours) and it was at the bottom of the hi/low meter.


Went to work then checked a day after (12 hours non-drive too) and it was in the middle?



Does it slump in the cold or anything?


Not sure what's going on!
