1.6 Tdci - Replacing Turbo

14 October 2013 - 07:41 AM

My focus is really lacking power and I noticed a new slight whine from (i think) the turbo. Not sure if its dirty or its on its way out but considering the type of damage you would get from a blown turbo I decided to purchase a refurbished unit from ebay for about 300 quid.  Not wanting to spend much more on this car (repair bills in the last couple of years have run into thousands already), I am thinking of doing the job myself with my buddy helping me. Haynes manual put the job at 4 stars which I honestly have never done but have found 3 stars jobs pretty easy. I also have a good set of tools and pit in my garage. None the less it is still something that neither me or my friend have ever done - do you think we should do it or is it too risky?

Also apart from the gaskets, what else needs to be changed? The oil feed pipe was replaced a year ago since I decided it was a good practice to do it while I had my DPF being removed.

Engine Cutting Out While Driving!

08 October 2013 - 10:19 AM

So I was driving my 2007 Focus 1.6 TDCI (98000miles) and while it was still cold, it sort of misfired and then when I stopped at the lights (still cold) it died. Starting it took a couple of attempts.  I tried to replicate this morning and could not get it to do the same. What could this be related to?

I had removed the DPF, cleared the EGR, and recently replaced injector seals, heaters, clutch and crankshaft pulley. I also dosed a bottle BG244 a couple of fuel fill ups ago.  The only thing which came to mind is a clogged fuel filter since the current one is approaching the 10k mark. I know everyone says that this should be changed every 10K or 1 year (and thats what I am planning this week or the next) but Ford actually say it can be changed every two years so I guess it cant be because of that? Oil (and filter) is approaching 5K miles so I am changing that as well.  I have not had any error codes except "overboost condition" which I have had for a few months and planning to clean the turbo vanes.

Any thoughts on this one?

Knock When Turning The Wheel On Rough Surface

08 October 2013 - 10:04 AM

I have a 2007 focus with 98000 miles and I have noticed a clear knock when driving slowly on a bumpy surface with the wheel turned to the left (although not 100% sure if its also on the right). This does not happen when I am driving in a straight line, only when turning. Mechanic checked the disk brakes and they were ok and told me its a problem with a bush inside the steering rack. Unfortunately I would have to change the whole rack because of it but he assured me that it wont cause any problems apart from the noise.

Anyone also came across this? would you agree with what my mechanic told me?

thanks

Mark

2007 Focus Stereo Bluetooth?

12 September 2013 - 01:51 PM

Pretty sure this has been discussed before but cant find any topics relating for my particular car... I have a 2007 Focus Titanium. It came with the (i think) 6000CD Sony stereo (like this one: http://www.caraudio-...CD1X_EU_enl.JPG). It has the green and red phone buttons but I think I would need to buy a bluetooth module for it to work. I found loads of them on ebay but how do I make sure which module I would need (code) for my car?

thanks

Mark

1.6 Tdci Loss In Power... Again!! :(

13 March 2013 - 09:37 AM

Must be the most unreliable engine I have ever come across. My 1.6TDCI is playing games ... again... it feels unresponsive and very hesitant to accelerate! The engine has done 94K miles, I service it regularly, every 5K using Total full synthetic oil. The car has had the DPF removed and a remap to get out a bit more power. Also recently I changed the Mass Airflow sensor.  Not sure if it has anything to do but recently fixed the alternator (new regulator and rectifier). I can hear a slight whine and a knock which sounds like coming from the top of the engine. The turbo feels to be working normally, it boosts normally at least. There is a slight flatter sometimes when I take my foot of the accelerator but I think that's because I removed the dpf.

I came up with the following possibilities which should help/fix the problem:

1. new injector seals/o-rings.

2. using BG244 fuel treatment.

3. using BG109 engine flush on my next service (next month).

any ideas?
