#529353 Car Care - Products & Advice

Posted by salsheikh on 06 October 2015 - 08:23 AM

Hi Jon

now Im not a connosisseur when it comes to keeping the car clean etc but these are my tips:

Use a ceramic coating product like G Technic C5 to give your alloys the best chance of keeping clean or a good wax like Finish Kare FK1000p

Rain Repellent

I have used Armor All Glass and i find it lasts longer than Rain X plus its easier to apply, even Armor All Sheild Wax works fine on windows even though its not made for that but this leaves your paint grabby.

Anti fog never seems to work for me, well the rain x one anyway but have a look on Detailing world forum to see if anyone can recommend a good product?

Winter Tyres

As the car doesnt have winter tyres i recommend getting a second set off ebay that have winter tyres already fitted! You can pick up a bargain! I managed to get 4 nearly new winter tyres for approx £100 and got some ford 16" 5 spoke alloys for another £100 so can use these over the winter months.

I'm sure others will come along and suggest some good products/ideas to you.

#527381 Info On A Couple Of Mods

how would I get it up there?. I know I can run it up the frame 'arm' by the door, but how can I get it across the roof?. Or is there a easier location?

easy peasy. the lining across the front allows you to tuck the cable inside and to the light. i used a cable tie and attached my aerial cable to it and pushed it through the gap (removed the light) and then fed it through. the rest of the cable can then be tucked in neatly.

you can always drill some holes for that induction noise (mind you this will mean drawing in some warm air - depending on where the holes are!)

what Mark ^^^ said. get it done by a reputable tuner though so do some research on the tuner before you go for it.

#524249 Info On A Couple Of Mods

Posted by salsheikh on 18 September 2015 - 08:28 AM

I've been reading this thread and have now downloaded the ELM program and its worked fine for me - running Windows 10.

Interested in doing this mod too but with wifey sat next to me last night she was adamant that i should not do it (i.e. spend any more money on the car - i was working on my car last night for a few hours to her annoyance!)...so i will keep an eye on this thread to see how you get on and maybe do it in the future when she's away at her moms for a week and install it then - most of my major mods are done when she is away as she just moans at me modding the car, women!

#523413 Headliner Removal To Fit A Second Interior Light

Posted by salsheikh on 16 September 2015 - 08:42 AM

hi all

got all my bits and prices together to fit a second light in the rear as its dark in the back.

cut the hole to fit the light and got my wiring ready but then came unstuck as i tried to feed the wiring through. I have a rod system (similar to what electricians use) so i can feed wirings through wierd places/locations/holes etc but halfway in the roof void the rod gets stuck and i cant get any further.

rod kit

Now, i dont want to remove the whole lining and was hoping someone can point me in the right direction to feed the wires through.

#521415 Terra Clean 1.8tdci

Posted by salsheikh on 11 September 2015 - 08:23 AM

A blanked EGRV is the same as a non functioning EGRV in as much as the valve is effectively permanently closed when blanked, so terracleaning won't clean the blanked EGRV - but you don't need it cleaned as it's not functioning

However you could temporarily remove the blank for the clean & reinstall if after if you can be bothered, as the terraclean will at least then assist in cleaning the inlet manifold of accumulated gunk which is important

Good call Mark. Might as well get it all cleaned if you are paying out for it and then put the blank back it. My cars running well but im tempted to get mine done but dont know if im going to be wasting money because it runs well

#521073 Wrapping

Posted by salsheikh on 10 September 2015 - 09:41 AM

Is that a thumbs up then!!

looking at it again...and again actually it is a yes!

#521048 Wrapping

Posted by salsheikh on 10 September 2015 - 08:50 AM

you'd have to ask the wrapping company on how difficult it would be and how to remove any glue residue from the paintwork for the best answer.

what colour are you thinking of?

i'd do something a bit different to stand out - chrome, gold or chameleon!
