Ok, thanks, this is sounding not so daunting anymore lol yea Tullyally, nice young chap down there stood in the pouring rain with me while we decided which pieces I needed!
Do you know Tullyally breakers ?
So if the extra black is just an earth, what should I do with it ?
The extra earth shouldn't be needed as the bulb holders are earthed in the new loom, so I'd say just forget about it. Are you cutting the car's loom and gonna join the wires end to end, or just gonna splice/scotch-lock into it?
Have used Tullyally a good few times aye, they're just useless over the phone and of course haven't embraced online tecnology yet. It's half an hour away for me, so would rather check if they have somethin in the yard before travellin..."should do aye, you'll need to come down and look yourself just"
I like heading in myself and being left to it, they don't normally like cutting looms and plugs though, I remember taking a rear interior light out of a Focus to put in my old Mondeo, never let on I wanted the plugs and a length of wire to go with it though, so only mentioned it when I was back at the desk to pay. Deed was done at that stage so they didn't give off too much...I just pleaded ignorance. Have got wee bits and pieces too before that they didn't even charge for, "just throw whatever you think they're worth in the box". If you're in again, keep an eye out for any Mondeo STs for me!
Your plan sounds spot on to me. I know what you're sayin...it's one thing havin somethin clear in your own head, tryin to explain it in writing can be another story!
The extra black wire I believe is just an earth anyway...
If you look at your exisitng wiring, in the two separate plugs there's a total of five wires...3 going to the stop/tail bulb (2 lives, one for each filament, and a shared earth) and 2 to the indicator (a live and an earth). This is where my notes from my upgrade would have come in handy with the wiring colours!
Then, if you look at the Mk2.5 loom, where the wiring is merged before the plug, you can see a black wire joining the two bulb holders, this is their shared/common earth, rather than having a separate one each, so I think your plan should work spot on.
Sorry I must have missed your earlier post where you said you'd got hold of a plug from a breakers...is it Tullyally you use?
I am interested in your statement: "Fitted 12V socket in boot, the loom is already there in all spec focus 05-11 just require the 12v socket and an earth feed."
I have an 08 and looking to do the same. Could you advise what and how please? Extra fuses or trailing cables willy-nilly required? (I ask because your photo pointing at an orange block connector is a little bit confusing to me)
Have you seen the full guide created by Lenny? Should have everything you need there - link below...
Get those headlights de-tango'd and blackeye'd mate, will finish off that frond end perfectly! Grilles and fog surrounds sprayed a matching black might complete the colour scheme. And you ever think about doing the centre bottom lip in black too? Either wrapped or sprayed.
Loving the progress, giving me ideas!
You got a link for those repeaters by the way? Have seen a few on the bay but worried they'll either not be dark enough or else be a poor fit, so would ideally like to get ones that I know will be good!
Ah no worries at all Hassen, after I picked up the Mondeo I tended to spend more time over on STdriveRS as there was more goin on for the Mondy, here was different class for the Focus though. Just kinda drifted away then and logged in the other day for the first time in months.
Haha, cheers for the offer, but if I bailed at this stage of the game I could be needing a real sick-note the next time the lads got their hands on me!
Dylan will probably be passing through my neck of the woods too en route.
There is definitely an option on the Sony's to turn on/off Auxiliary input...hold down the 'Menu' button for a few seconds, the VID number will flash up, press down and it brings you to the Aux menu, and across will cycle it between on and off...
No worries, only reason I asked was in case they had been retro-fitted and maybe corners had been cut in terms of the modified wiring or that. I have little experience of the Mondeo xenons myself, so hopefully someone else who has them will be able to help out with their own personal experience in terms of their brightness.
One thing I have read before is that they're not quite as bright as the really modern xenons if that's what you'd be comparing it too. Would be ideal to compare two Mondeos obviously, but not easy I'm sure! I'd say bulbs could be your best bet as a starting point anyway. Sorry I can't be of more help!
Thanks very much pal! Unfortunately I never got round to fitting the blinds no, and as I mentioned (I think), tint wasn't really an option as I feared the breaks in the conductive paint on the rear windscreen could damage it. I like doing things on a budget, and there was a guy on the STOC forum selling a set for £40 when I was looking for them, but he refused to post in case they got damaged as he wasn't confident in trying to package them up sufficiently. Fair enough I suppose, but I just never got round to buying a new set then, and Santa didn't bring me them either!
I know the guys that use them, Clive (Stoney871) for example, speak very highly of them, and I like the fact they're removable too.
Have you looked into just trying to source proper factory tinted privacy glass from a breaker car? Bargains can be had on ebay (think Charlie (Brigante) got a full set of privacy glass for a steal), but as he found out, beware that the rear screen is slightly different between Mk2 and 2.5 facelift!
Just to clarify, you're wanting to know if a Focus ST bumper can go on the Focus ZetecS? If so, then yes, straight swap.
Your exhaust tailpipe prob won't line up to the bumper cut out, and there'll be twin cut-outs on the ST bumper so you'll be after a custom twin exit exhaust then!
Front bumpers are interchangeable too by the way, and your Zetec S bumpers should fetch you most of your money back. Just make sure and get parts from a Mk2.5 facelift ST as the lights (fog/reverse in rear and everything on front!) are obviously different.
I'm assuming Sal's thinkin from the pics in your post your asking about putting a Fiesta bumper on the Focus? In which case, I'd say it would need a lot of work!
Cheers pal, as I mentioned on your thread I gathered up all my parts separately over a long time and with some serious bargain hunting but was so chuffed with the end result when it was all finished, well worth the wait in my eyes and shows it can be done! ;-)
This thread has been pretty dead for quite some time now as I don't feel there's much more to be done and as I've had the car over two years now and put a lot of miles on it I've actually been toying with the idea of changing for a few months now. So I've been hesitant to do much more to it that probably won't add any value to it asides from personal gratification
I don't think I'm gonna go down the performance route with this car, have one or two decent aesthetic mods that I'd still like to complete, like the boost pod and a wheel refurb, but I'd say that could be the height of it!
The only real 'mods' I have to report of late are getting round to completing the upper and lower front grilles in gloss black, and replacing my bonnet lock, which wasn't great craic at all!
Next 'mod' is to replace my boot switch...was gonna carry out the fix from the guide on here, even lifted an old mouse from work to get a micro-switch out of, but think I've sourced one off ebay now anyway. My own got temperamental last year and a clean and WD40 cured it for a while, but started playing up again over the holidays and is well and truly knackered at this stage!
Pretty sure they're just clipped in the whole way along, but not certain. I'm sure someone on here is bound to have removed them before so would be better placed to help.
If I had kept my car standard this would have been a must for me. I actually asked the garage who fitted my ST kit to keep the old standard parts for this very reason so I could provide them to someone who wanted to attempt colour coding, but I didn't get back to them for weeks afterwards and when I had they'd binned the bumpers as they were scrap anyway and taking up space and just kept me a box of the smaller parts (fogs, plates, grille etc).
Only heads up I'd give is that I see from your avatar you've already done your complete fog surrounds...some people would rather keep some sort of black in there to break things up a little. Personally, if it were me, I'd probably colour code the bumper valances, and maybe gloss black the lower part of the fog surrounds, but you could always decide on that after you get the valances done. Definitely go for it anyway mate, will make a great difference I reckon.
Ah right! I work in Ballyraine there and come in the road from Lifford so don't be up the town too much past the IT. The odd trip to the Colonel or the shopping centre for lunch is about the height of it!
