Bye Bye Zetec :(......purchasing New Car Tomorrow.....suggestions?

27 June 2012 - 12:55 PM

Unfortunately, my Zetec was sent back for a refund last week, as the big end bearing was making a knocking noise. So it was decided, that I would get my money back and look for another car. Obviously a ford would be my first choice, although there seems to be a shortage of 'nice condition' modern zetec/zetec S around here.

Currently, I'm looking at a:
(If I can find one) - Zetec S
Honda Civic VTEC
Renault Megane 1.5 TDI
Seat Leon S/ Ibiza
Corsa SXI

Basically, my question is this. Obviously ford will be my first choice if a nice condition one can be found, but I just want to know what cars out of that list you would avoid. I'm looking for a car thats got a fair bit of acceleration in it as I like a fun drive (when safe to do so of course). Any suggestions/opinions would be gratefully received, as I'm going car shopping tomorrow.

Lazy Tappet Advice Needed: Do I Return My Car?

15 June 2012 - 04:11 PM

Greetings all,

I purchased my zetec about 3 weeks ago, and as I knew the bloke, he sold it to me at trade price (£1,500). The car was immaculate both in and out; and when I took it for a test drive, he said the faint clicking/tapping sound I can hear when I accelerate (at around 2-3k revs) is the injectors as he put an engine cleaner through.

Fast forward 2 weeks, and the clicking hasn't completely gone, so I went and got a complete engine flush and oil change (using the correct 5w 30 oil), and the mechanic stated that after a few hundred miles of driving, the new oil may cure my lazy tappet issue. Basically, my issue here is that as much as I like the car, I'm just slightly peeved that I have been sold a car with, what could be a terminal engine fault (although it doesn't affect the drive of the car). Its a difficult situation, as the dealer I bought it from did me a favour by giving the car to me at trade, instead of the asking price of 2.4k, and also since a trade sale doesn't come with a warrently as such, I'm sort of stuck with what I have bought.

What I would like to know is, what are the "end concequences" of having a lazy tappet? For example, will the car survive more than a year? (its done 93k miles), and will it lead to selling issues?? My aim is to essentially drive this car until next year. which by then I will be 21, and will have 2 years no claims, which means I can sell the fiesta and buy a celica.

I'm grateful for any advice given

Josh :)

High Fuel Conumption: Something Wrong Here??

08 June 2012 - 03:58 PM

Since having my zetec, I put 1 tank of fuel in it on the day of purchase (costing £41), and have driven it reasonably well, with the ocassional bit of hard driving for fun. To cut a long story short, the petrol light has come on today at 240 miles, which to me seems pretty poor, considering I have been reading posts of others getting 300+.

I sent the car back to the garage on the 2nd day of purchase because the ACE fail message came on, but this turned out to be a blip, as the car drove fine and was tested on the diagnostics, and needless to say the error hasn't appeared since. However, could someone pleae shed some light on this, as my MPG here seems really poor, especially since my older car (51 plate Proton Wira 1.5) used to average 280-300 per tank).....

Hope someone can answer this

Urgent Reply Needed! May Of Bought Wrong Filter!

07 June 2012 - 07:40 PM

Hey all,
I'm slightly confused concerning the MK of my car, as I just this second perchased an aftermarket air filter for a MK5 fiesta. However, I'm starting to fear that I may of bought the wrong one! (fail!). My car is a 52 plate (picture attached), so could someone tell me what MK my car is, as some say MK4 whilst others state MK5. So confused! Also, is the airbox for this model in the engine bay, or is it it behind the passenger kickplate as someone told me?

Mk5 Fiesta Zetec 1.4 Performance Questions

27 May 2012 - 03:31 PM

Hello Everyone,
In just under a week, I'm going to be buying a 2003 Fiesta 1.4 Zetec, and I have a few questions concerning performance. Firstly, compared to my first car (a 1.5 Proton Wira), I'm interested to know what the performance of the zetec engine is like on the whole, as I have never driven one previously. I'm aware the zetec isn't neck breathtakingly fast, but I do like a car with a bit of poke, especially when overtaking, and since the torque numbers look fairly promising, I'm hoping someone can shine some light on their experience with this car.
