The intake does when you press the accelerator. It does sound like a dump valve releasing.

its a common problem they do it as the car gets older, normally oiling them before they snap works, because the eye is quite thin and plastic gets brittle it breaks. my dads had loads of mk4 fiestas and they have all gone

You have to remove the interior door panel if I remember as the handles are screwed on. And you will have to get some new handles too as the plastic eye on them snaps.
