It was a good read but unfortunately it didn't solve the problem..
However, whist looking for a different sensor we discovered a pipe/tube had become disconnected which should of been attached to the fuel injection system?
Apparently this has been disconnected since my nan's had it (about 7 years lol)

I remember having a similar problem with a Ka3 some years ago. When lifting off the throttle to change gear the revs did not drop and remained high all the time the car was moving. As soon as the car stopped moving the engine would return to idle. It was fixed under the used car warranty by "reworking" some wiring under the bonnet above the steering column and against the bulkhead.
Sorry I cannot be more specific but if I remember rightly it looked like a component in that area had its connections bypassed but the dealer at the time just said that it was a standard modification at the time.
That's great, we're gonna have a look at it later today to see if we can find the same bit your talking about
