In Topic: Mk3 2Ltr - No Top End Power - Cant Go Over 80Mph Up Incline?

09 March 2013 - 02:58 PM

I've bought a 2.0 mk3 Ghia X TDCI 130 6 speed , new Clutch/DMF in January (sigh!).
Just had a full service a few weeks ago too.

The clutch seems OK, the car (and diesel in general) is new to me so I'm not 100% sure about the power profile. Anyway...

Was returning from M25 J5 to M25 J4. This is slightly uphill.

Performance was dire on the incline.
At 70mph - car did not want to accelerate with full gas in 5th gear.
Dropped to 4th gear - it nudged up to 75 - full throttle - revs seemed stable - lots of smoke out exhaust. But no real pick up - getting passed by lots of other cars of all sizes and shapes.

The outward journey seemed fine on flats and declines - a comfortable 90 - not a usual habit but just getting a feel for new car.

Also back on a dual carriageway - at one point was doing 40mph - dropped to 3rd to accelerate - lots of smoke.

No burning smells - but my sense of smell is not brilliant - just normal!

So is this a clutch issue still?

I just took it back to the garage that did the clutch? They are looking at it and said it might be clutch or catalytic converter?

Town driving seems OK.

Thoughts appreciated?

Had the same myself it ended up being the diesel pump in the end after changing allsorts of things car runs perfect now although with all the smoke i would defo check the boost pipe first

had the egr valve blanked off already mate didnt make a blind bit of difference and its the catridge thats been replaced not the manifold also there was quite a bit of carbon on the old one thats been taken out....

Anymore suggestions ? i didnt think it was the turbo myself as everything was pressurising properly eg the boost pipes from egr to intercooler but i was assured it was the turbo its like the engines being starved to me i reckon its a !Removed! sensor but ive had that replaced too gonna have to send it in to fords for them to tell me they dont know whats up with it :-(

yes mate its at the front of the inlet manifold theres two of them with 3 pipes coming off em, also the actuators moving the arm when i start it up also you can hear the turbo kicking when revving and the boost pipe extracts there are no blockages anywhere had all pipes off one by one and checked em out also the intercooler..... foca said it could be the variable vanes in the turbo as everything elso seems to be working but iam still getting fault code p0235 on FSuper

im sure its the turbo but could it be a sensor somewhere ie cam/crank as the fault started intermittent at first ???
