Hello all,

Turbo Noise From Cold Is Flutter Normal
08 May 2013 - 08:34 AM
Hi guys,
From cold I noticed my 1.8tdci makes a pidgeon noise, like a flutter when changing gears for around 5 mins from cold start, it's only slight, I notice it with the radio off.
Is this a normal attribute ? The car has had regular oil changes, and is actually semi clean since I have had two oil changes within about 500 miles just to be sure.

Engine Rattle 1.8Tdci 2007
30 April 2013 - 03:58 PM
Hi all,
I want to try and make this as concise as possible for anyone to help me.
I have a 2007 tdci focus 52k on the clock and FSH. It has developed a rattle and I'm not 100% sure if it has done it since using engine flush or not but its just something I traced back and thought maybe related, the noise is also loudest when the engine is hot. No obvious power loss, smoke, etc.
The sound is almost a bearing sort of sound like a tensioner, however I have replaced the aux belt and tensioner (and ran it without the belt on ) and it still does the noise.
I have also just had the cambelt and tensioner replaced, and it's still doing it.
When ford listened to it, they said its most likely either of this things, I have tried listening with a stethoscope and I can only say it sounds loudest at the left hand side of the engine.
Please can anyone suggest what the noise could be ? The only sort of moving this on that side I can think of left is the chain that runs the fuel pump? Can anyone tell me a little more about the setup and whether this could be the noise, does it have guides or a tensioner that could be noisey also ?
I will try and post a video up soon also.
Many many thanks to anyone that can take the time to help me out, as I've already spent a few hundred quid on it to no avail. I'm also going to do another oil and filter change tonight and check for any swarf.

What Is Your Distance To Empty ? And What Engine ?
16 April 2013 - 04:07 PM
Hi all, I did give this a search but couldn't find a thread, delete it by all means if its a duplicate.
Could you all tell me what your distance to empty is when you brim your tank ?
I have a 2007 1.8 tdci, it says 407 on fillup, however according to the fuel gauge I had covered 142 miles to a quarter of a tank, and the current distance to empty + the distance covered ended up totally up to 450 odd at that point of you get what I mean.
Would be glad to hear of your data, any engine would be interesting, but obviously the same as mine would be more useful.

Clatter On Startup
31 March 2013 - 08:28 PM
Hi all, This is my first diesel as a personal car I do want to start off saying, the lorries I drive all sound like crap because they are lorries so I can't really make a fair comparison to a domestic car!
But is it normal for clatter from cold startup ? 1.8tdci 2007 focus, how do yours sound ? The clatter subsides in approx half a mile, but being used to petrols, on startup it sounds like the beginning of catastrophic valve train issues (on a petrol).
Could my issue be glow-plug related ? The car is sitting at 51k, the light takes a fair while to go out In the morning.
It's been serviced literally 200 miles ago with fully synthetic ford spec oil and I use millers diesel Ecomax in it and its had an Italian tuneup on a 200 mile round trip also
