How Do You Close The Obd Cap With An Obd Equipped?

03 April 2014 - 06:41 PM

I just borrowed an OBD device with bluetooth from a colleague, and for the life of me I cannot close the cap covering the OBD port inside the car.

So I'm wondering if I'm doing anything wrong, or it simply isn't meant to close (which IMO would be very bad design)

It's a Fiesta mk 7.5.

Tip For Removing Stones From Tyres

04 March 2014 - 08:10 PM

I don't know if anyone else has this problem, so bear with me :-)

Personally I hate having stones stuck in my tyres, it looks bad, makes an annoying sound, and I figure it can't be good for grip in heavy rain.

So I usually pry those little suckers ouf the tyre ASAP.

Lately I've been doing it using the parcel hook of a Victorinox swiss army knife.

Most of the stones don't go that deep, so the hook can sorta just get behind the stone and pull it out. It feels much safer and more controlled than using a screwdriver or simillar.

Just thought I'd share it, in case anyone has similar issues.

How Long Until The Engine Is Properly Warm ? Ecoboost 1.0 125Ps.

02 March 2014 - 06:59 PM

Sorry for posting two threads close to each other - I felt it was the right way to do it, since they contain quite different questions.

I've just got the wife a new Ford Ka 1.2 (the one that shares a lot with the Fiat 500). After driving less than a mile, the water temperature is already warm in it.

On the other hand my Ecoboost 1.0 Fiesta takes around 5 miles before the water is warm (4 bars)

I assume this is because the Ecoboost engine doesn't allow cooling water into the cylinder block until the engine is properly warmed up.

This leads me to the question: Has anyone tried fitting an OBD adapter and measuring the oil temperature to figure out when it's properly warm ?

I'm thinking about buying one, but this is the sole purpose I'd use it for, so it seems a bit expensive if someone else knows the answer.

Like I mentioned, my car takes around 5 miles to heat up the water, but I've no clue if the oil is warm as well by then.

Best Way To Accelerate With A The Ecoboost 1.0 125Ps?

02 March 2014 - 06:54 PM

I've got an Ecoboost 125ps for around a year by now, and I'm still struggling to drive it "properly".

I come from a Honda Civic 1,8 Sport  2009 - in that car I'd overtake by tossing it into 3rd gear and flooring it, somewhere around 6k rpm I'd shift up and floor it again - worked like a charm (I prefer to overtake as fast as possible to get into the proper lane again, and despite this sounding like I drive excessively fast, I actually don't - I normally stay within the speed limits give or take 10%)

If I do the same in the Fiesta - 3rd gear, floor it. It's pretty fast (after half a second turbo lag), but the second I shift into 4th it loses a lot of power.

Normally I'll upshift around 5.5k rpm in the Fiesta, and this means it ends up below 4k rpm in 4th gear. This in turn causes it to be quite slow until it reaches 4k rpm when it suddenly starts pulling again (could it perhaps be overboost cooling down or being disabled briefly?)

So what I'm wondering is: How do you guys make the most out of this engine?

And again: I don't drive like a maniac, despite this thread sounding like it  :D

Any Information Released Yet On The New Ka 2014 ?

14 October 2013 - 03:50 PM

Just read this article: http://www.motoroids...-in-march-2014/

And as my wife is currently wanting to get a Ka, I thought it'd be better to wait for the new version (only 6 months after all)

However does anyone know if any hard facts have been released on it ?

The article I mention only has rumours :-(

For instance I'm quite curious whether it'll come with the turbo charged 1,0 ecoboost engine from the Fiesta - it'll be quite a little rocket if it does.
