#461565 Insurance And Mods

Posted by luke.grimbley on 05 March 2015 - 06:27 PM

I had a guy I used to work with bought a new mini. He didn't know much about cars. It had a front splitter fitted which was hardly noticeable. He didn't declare it because he didn't know it wasn't the norm. His has was hit from behind whilst parked at the side of the road. He had to claim as the other drive didn't stop or leave details. The insurance inspected the car and refused to pay out as it was "modified". Thankfully the other driver was caught thanks to CCTV.

Point is that insurance companies are just there to scam. They get away with charging over the top because its a legal requirement. The "modifications" had nothing to do with the crash which just proves they were trying to get out of the claim and all costs.

After that I don't take any chances.

#457339 Ford Focus Mk2 2007 Main Beam Problem

Posted by luke.grimbley on 22 February 2015 - 03:35 AM

Could be a problem with the stalk on the steering column not switching over to main beam - what happens if you try the main bean flash on the stalk?

Or there's maybe there's a problem with the high beam relay itself, related to the bulb blowing. The bad news here is that the relay is integral to the GEM module and not a serviceable part :(

I'll stand corrected on the relay part here. I remembered changing a relay for my full beams but this must have been on my MK1.

What about under the bonnet? I have bought a pair of 6ohm resistors for the Focus and am having a similar problem of where to mount them.

they should be in my gallery, can you see them?

Those are the same as the side lights. Not sure if you had an answer on this..

#451832 Oil Level Check (Correct Me If Im Wrong) 1.8 Petrol 2008

Posted by luke.grimbley on 05 February 2015 - 06:49 PM

After the oil is changed the level will drop the first time the engine is run. When checking oil the engine should be warm i was always told. Check it after a drive but have the engine off for 5-10 minutes to allow the oil to settle.

#451770 Added St Spoiler - Insurance Invalid?!

Posted by luke.grimbley on 05 February 2015 - 03:34 PM

That's good news, I thought I'd be looking at losing the whole lot. Thanks for that.

Do you know if the FOC insurance covers modifications? I'm sure I've seen an insurance rep on the forums too. If you see this...:P

#449912 Insurance...-.- Biggest Scam Going. Any Tips?

Posted by luke.grimbley on 30 January 2015 - 01:53 PM

Insurance is a scam full stop. Legally required so they can charge unreasonable prices and we have to pay it. Since i started driving if i add up all my policies for the past 3 years I have paid out £4500. I'd like to see that cost justified considering i have never had an accident, made a claim or have any convictions.

#430048 Remapping My Slow Focus!?!

Posted by luke.grimbley on 20 November 2014 - 06:14 PM

How much is that roughly?

Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC

How much is what? If you do want to remap you would be better to perform any other modifications first i.e. air filter, exhaust, new injectors. This will allow the remap to make more power over stock.

#429638 2.0 Mk2 Focus Engine Upgrades Help

You should start a build thread. Would be interested to see how it goes and I'm sure others on here would be too.

Not done it myself but if you remove the glove box you will get a good idea. That's where all the electrics come in as well as the air for the HVAC. Should be somewhere there you can drill.

Best thing to do would be buy a length of hose with the right inside diameter and cut it to fit.

#422729 Only One Reversing Light !

Posted by luke.grimbley on 25 October 2014 - 03:57 PM

What's wrong with one reverse light? You're never going to see it unless someone else drives your car so why is it a big deal?

Reversing at night up dark lanes etc. Not a problem if there's street lights but for me at least the reverse lights are essential.

Get the left hard drive reverse. Modify it to fit 2 bulbs and wire in reverse at both sides. Works a treat :)
