As above, check fuses first as its possible one has blown while fitting the radio.

Ive had this problem before though and fixed it by swapping over the red and yellow wires that had bullet connectors on them (so red wire was plugged to yellow wire & yellow wire was plugged to red wire) then the radio I had would keep the station memory.

It just makes the gauges do their full sweep to test there are no faults with the gauges & warning lights.
If the petrol gauge did its full sweep then the fault will most likely be with the sender unit in the tank as mentioned before.
Get more than one quote though as prices between garages can vary quite a lot.

From 13" to 15" the difference is around a 1mph over-reading on your speedo, so 30mph on your speedo is really 29mph actual speed (according to an online calculator!).

Have you tried the gauge sweep test to rule out a problem with the instrument cluster? (Hold down trip mileage button while turning key to position II).
