Escort RS1600

So this was by no means the most powerful or best looking but it is essentially Genesis.

The Escort RS1600 was the first production car to bare the Rally Sport badge and started what is now virtually a cult following.

It came at a time when the Escort was dominating rallying, underlining the pedigree that all these fast Fords have.

It ran a 1.6 litre, 16 valve engine with a Kent engine block, essentially a detuned version of the Formula 3 engine of the time

The Escort RS1600 also benefited from sports suspension and a stiffer, stronger bodyshell.

It really did put Ford on the map in terms of performance cars and even today original Escorts such as this one are very popular amongst amateur rally drivers.
