Sierra RS Cosworth

Next up is in one of the true legends.

The Sierra RS Cosworth was first revealed to the public back in 1985 at the Geneva Motor Show but didn't make it out into the wild until 1986.

But boy was it worth the wait.

Initially, the turbocharged Cosworth engine churned out 204bhp all through the rear wheels and a 5-speed gear box.

In 1987, the rather exclusive Sierra RS500 rolled off the production line and, with help from Aston Martin no less, it came with an engine producing 224bhp.

Three years later, the Sierra RS went four wheel drive and benefitted from an extra 16bhp, taking the standard model only four short of the coveted RS500.

It was a massive statement of intent from Ford and succeeded in the fast saloon world which had been dominated by the then emerging BMW M cars.
