Loading... Spare bulbs
It’s got to be said that this is a rule we should have here. In certain countries (see our tick chart below) it is compulsory to have a spare bulb kit in the car as a just in case.
This is one that the Europeans have got bang on, there is nothing worse seeing a single headlight coming towards you only to realise at the last moment that it is a car just skimming past you.
And in this country if on is out then the police might pull you over and every time it is the same. “I will go get it replaced tomorrow officer, honest!”
Who knows if they do or not?
So before you set off to Europe go to your local car parts shop to get the right kit for your car and then just keep it there.
Never hurts to have a spare.
Of course if you are a bit of a car novice it might be an idea to grab a Haynes manual as well, no point having your compulsory spare bulb if you don’t know how to fit it.
High-vis vest
I am sure that plenty of people will say this is a great idea but I am not one of them.
The theory is obvious, break down and you have something that makes sure you are seen by other cars on the road.
But surely if you broke down you shouldn’t play in the traffic to kill time, you should just do what the UK Highway Code tells you, stay well clear of the road and your car till help arrives.
It is also compulsory to go to Spain equipped with enough for everyone in the car, as if a walk down the motorway is some kind of family outing.
Nonetheless the law is the law so make sure you have these builders vests in your car as a just in case.
Breathalyzer
Finally our list is capped off by the most ridiculous of all these European driving accessories, the breathalyzer.
This is only a requirement of the French who insist that you carry one of their approved instant alcohol testing kits wherever you go.
They expect you to test yourself if you think you might not be able to drive to ensure you are safe.
Personally I think that if you are aware you have had a few then you might not want to test yourself, after all ignorance is bliss.
The simple bit of advice is just doing drink if you have to drive and it won’t be a problem.
Still you have to make sure you buy one before you go, just make sure you get one that says it has been approved by the French government.
