    15/06/2010 Ford's car and commercial vehicle ranges recorded significant sales gains during May to retain the blue oval brand's UK market lead. As well as overall UK market leadership in cars and commercials, a position Ford has held for 33 and 44 years respectively, Ford vehicles also lead a number of industry segments. For cars, the Ford Fiesta, Ford Focus, Ford Mondeo and Ford Galaxy are all clear segment leaders while the Ford Transit continues its long-held position as the overall top-selling commercial vehicle in Britain. During May, the Ford Focus, the Ford Kuga and the Ford S-MAX all recorded sales gains compared with May 2009. While for the year to the end of May, Ford Ka, Ford Fiesta, Ford Focus, Ford Kuga and Ford S-MAX all registered significant sales increases, compared with the same period in 2009. Ford Fiesta continues to top the UK car sales chart for the year to the end of May with the Ford Focus in second position. In May, Ford Focus was the UK best seller, retaking the top spot from the Ford Fiesta for the first time since August 2009. Both Ford Fiesta Van and Ford Transit increased sales volume and share in May, compared with 2009. Ford Fiesta Van sales, at 296, increased by 100 compared with the same month in 2009 and its share increased from 10.4 to 15.8 per cent. Ford Transit sales at 3,446 for the month were up 1,038 compared with May 2009 and its share went up from 18.9 to 22.9 per cent. These sales and share improvements are also reflected in the sales and share figures for the two vehicles for the year to the end of May with Fiesta van share up from 7.7 to 9.2 per cent, for example, and Ford Transit share up from 23.0 to 23.6 per cent, when comparing the same period in 2009. Nigel Sharp, Ford of Britain managing director, said: "Ford's ongoing introduction ofnew models and advanced technology is attracting both our car and commercial vehicle customers. Together with our dealers we are working hard to demonstrate the outstanding value provided by the Ford range in an intensely competitive UK market."
