Ford Mustang on the Empire State Building

Just as they did back in 1965, the new Ford Mustang convertible has been placed on the observation deck of the Empire State Building in New York. Ford has used the dramatic publicity stunt to show off it’s new model, and to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Ford Mustang.

Getting the Ford Mustang to the 86th floor of the Empire State Building was certainly no easy task, especially given that the new model is considerably larger than the old one and that they would be using the same freight elevator as they did back in 1965.

Sadly, it was necessary to cut the Ford Mustang into 6 pieces to enable it to be placed into the freight elevator where it was then reassembled on the 86th Floor. A mock up of the freight elevator was actually build to enable engineers to practice the cuts on a second pre production model, making sure that they would not get to the building only to find out that a piece would not fit.

After all that hard work, the Triple Yellow Ford Mustang you can see in the picture above sits proudly on top of the observation deck of the Empire State Building on the 86th floor.
