She is currently not insured to drive the Passat but is a named driver on the Picanto.

As the policies on both cars will be up for renewal this summer, they are suggesting that she be made the main driver on the Passat (her father is currently the main driver) to enable her to use the car for the holiday. I think this is unnecessary as I believe it would be ok to put her on the renewed policy as a named driver on the Passat as it is only for the holiday (in the UK) and also he could lose his no claims discount built up over many years if he became only a named driver. I doubt if she will be driving the car much afterwards as she is going to uni in September. Also, in addition, he will be using the Passat for work in the autumn as he does now so it makes no sense at all for him to change to a named driver.

I believe that a named driver using a car for a week or two's holiday wouldn't negate the Named Driver status as long as she didn't drive it much for the rest of the year whether it is in accumulated miles or time. Am I right?

Another option I think would be even better is if she were to be insured seperately for the Passat , on a temporary policy with, for example, Veygo for the holiday which we have used many times in the past. The cost of the temporary insurance would probably be less than making a 19 yr old the main driver on the Passat

Comments invited.

Policyholder/Keeper/Main Driver

Hi, This seems to be a bit of a vague area when departing from the norm when all the above being the same person. Hi

Are there any 76 year old members in the forum and what premiums are they paying (MK 4 125hp automatic focus). I have just received my renewal and it has gone up to nearly £1200-00. I have been with them for Sixteen years and a full no claims bonus. I had a no fault claim five years ago which did not effect my policy. Last year some one went into the back of me in a supermarket car park, no damage was caused to either vehicle and no claims were made , but as one should I informed my insurance company just in case., straight away they increased my premium by £270-00 this year they have increased by a further £350-00.Is this normal and is anybody else paying these amounts.

	Many Thanks

Hi, new here. I have a Focus 2000 1.6 ghia and sadly have written it off. It was great for it's year. about 79, 000 Mileage. I was the 3rd owner. Previous owner a grandad and kept it garaged. Copart are offering £1,230 as a payout and inoaodn£2,000 for it. I've only found two other examples but as 2001. I need to prove they aren't offering me enough. It was a good example. So clean and well looked after. Any kind advice welcome.

hi! (new here so sorry if i format stuff wrong!)

i wanted to know if anyone knows of any insurance company that i could go to that will allow for/be somewhat lenient with modifications?

i have asked my current insurance (hastings) if i could drum to disc convert my mk6 fiesta zetec S, and they said no.

i’ve called adrian flux and i got a quote of £13,000 so i don’t reckon it’s too worth it xD

important to note, i’m 20 (21 in october) AND have had my license for less than 3 months so no claims bonus at all. (i know it sounds silly me wanting to do things so early)

are there any insurance companies that’ll take the disc conversion and still be affordable? or am i just better off waiting a year to do anything to my car?

	thank you!!

Just like to put in a good word for this insurer.

After having an accident and writing off my old car, Tesco settled (and paid) within 6 days.

They arranged for the wreck to be collected within 7 days, and were brilliant in arranging new insurance on new car.

	100% recommended.

Back in May I was hit by a breakdown truck while stationery in a line of traffic.

The solicitor dealing with my claim for uninsured losses (Alongside those of my insurer) is not getting a response from the third party insurer. As recently as a month ago the 3rd party insurer requested a statement from me - so the sol forwarded to them my and my wife's statements, and photos I took at the scene showing the trucks skid marks and the pile of debris (car was written off).

My own insurer has no issues, and has dealt with the claim efficiently, its being recorded as "No Fault".

This having dragged on for a while for various reasons, the solicitor informs me that "Unfortunately we are still awaiting a response from the third party insurer. We have sent multiple emails and attempted to call. However, due to the time of year they are not taking calls from third parties at the moment."

She futher states "the next steps will be to build a liability review and discuss the claim with our solicitors."

It isn't my excess which is at stake (this was waived), but we were on holiday in Scotland at the time, on a busy weeked holiday near Oban, and have accomodation, travel - and an outstanding invoice for transport costs to get our caravan back to Birmingham!

Can someone enlighten me as to what on earth is going on, in layman's terms, and why a "liabilty Review" is needed now, so late in the process?

	Should I be worried?

Should I pay the invoice for the caravan repatriation in case the whole thing drags on? I must admit, I'm at my wits end on this one. (It doesn't help that a few weeks later, having the replaced the car, some idiot collided with our caravan while we were towing it a few weeks later!)

	Hi,

I am looking to change the gear knob in my Focus ST to the ST ford performance gear knob but the question I have is do I need to let my insurance company know? I thought I didn't need to since this is all done through Ford and its not like I am changing it to a aftermarket one also I am sure that this can be put on as an option when the car is being brought from the factory. Some people say I need to delcare it but others are saying it is fine and no need so any experts on this would be awsome.

	Hi,

My son's thinking of having 3 things done to his Focus St line 22 plate but would they be classed as modifications and as such the Insurance co. will need to be advised? However these questions could relate to any/all Ford models.

Is this the place I am permitted to pose the questions or is there a more appropriate forum? I would rather not ask the questions just yet, in case I get into conflict.

	Would someone kindly advise .

	Thanks in advance

October 2021, Direct Line: insured for £335 (with extras like towbar, legal, car hire, protected NCD)

October 2022, direct line wanted £408, re-insured with LV for £326.

This year LV want £432 to renew, so got quotes as follows:-

LV online quote - same as renewal (not as daft as it sounds, in the past I've got an online quote from my existing insurer when renewal has shot up that was lower than the renewal price, so its my first port of call!)

Direct Line £833 !!! (rechecked details to make sure I'd entered mileage as 12,000 pa instead of 120,000!).

Zurich - no longer do car insurance

 Saga £736

 Aviva £779

Halifax £629 - pop-up says its with LV! Nice commission they are taking then.

Caravan insurance was expected to be about £400(up from £300 the previous year) but was quoted on renewal as £600, came down to £400 by shopping around

If this happens next year with my second car (an MX5) it'll have to go. As will the caravan. As well as my loss of things I like to do, the insurers will lose income from me that I can no longer afford.

Had a cracked windscreen after a stone threw up from a passing truck ,thru LV insurance , cost me the £95 excess ( fitter said they invoice the insurers approx £800-£900 for the Ecosport i run !), although i think it will not affect my protected NCB, am i obliged to mention the claim when shopping around for insurance next time its due as it was not really an accident claim as such?

	Hi Guys,

The current insurers I'm with are great and all for new drivers, but there are a few things I want to change in my car... mainly a new audio system (head unit, speakers, sub and amp)

My insurer wont allow me to change anything on my car, so I think it's time to change and go with a new company that does support mods, especially for future too!

Going to speak with Adrian Flux, but any others you guys recc?

	Hey All,

Is there a general consensus about who is best to insure with when making mods to your car?

Want to add the Eibach springs to my car next week only to find insurers won’t insure it and will need to cancel. Couldn’t even add “stickers” either!

Quotes to insure are a joke and about £200 more than prior to Eibach springs and rear boot spoiler.

Appreciate they just want all the money they can get but no sense is applied to this industry and it’s infuriating.

No options to allow OEM options from the manufacturer either on insurance quotes - so even if the manufacturer offer “the mod” after it’s come out the factory as an official OEM change, it’s classified as a mod and sticks your insurance up by stupid amounts. Ridiculous - It was an option I didn’t tick during build. How does that matter?!!

There is no way insurers charge more for a focus with black wing mirrors vs blue ones so how would they know what the car came out the factory like?!

OEM mod or not…this industry needs looking at.
